Titans Score Season-High 96 Over Pointers in Regular Season Finale

STEVENS POINT, Wis.- With five Titans scoring at least 10 points, the UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team defeated UW-Stevens Point with a season-high 96 points on the road. The win put the Titans at a 20-5 overall record, which extended their run of regular-length seasons with at least 20 wins to five years in a row.

First Half Summary

After giving up the first basket of the game, Oshkosh went on a 9-0 run to take the last lead of the night. Neither team scored more than five until senior guard Hunter Plamann started a 19-point run for Oshkosh with three Titans scoring five points and the team shooting a combined 64.2 percent over the run. Following a Pointer jumper, Oshkosh hit another 9-0 run to make the score 46-12 with 6:11 left in the half. Stevens Point responded with a seven-point run, the last of the half. Oshkosh led 55-26 at the half.

First Half Leaders

Oshkosh shot 60.0 percent (21-of-35) from the field, 42.9 percent (six-of-14) from three and 87.5 percent (seven-of-eight) from the line, led by senior guard Quinn Steckbauer with 13 points. He went four-of-six from the field, three-of-four from three and two-of-two from the line. Senior guard Eric Peterson and senior forward Levi Borchert also recorded double-digit points. Sophomore Jonah Rindfleisch led with six rebounds (two offensive) and Plamann recorded six assists.

Stevens Point shot 41.4 percent (12-of-29) from the field and 20.0 percent (two-of-10) from three with no free throw attempts. Junior guard Ryan Peterson led the Pointers with five points, going two-of-four from the field and one-of-three from three. Sophomore guard Myles Coleman recorded three rebounds and two Pointers had three assists.

Second Half Summary

The teams traded points for most of the second half until a 10-0 run by Stevens Point brought the score to 94-73 with 2:45 left in the game. Each team made one more basket after the run and Oshkosh ended the game with a 96-76 lead.

Full Game Leaders

The Titans finished the game shooting 56.3 percent (36-of-64) from the field, 40.0 percent (10-of-25) from three and 77.8 percent (14-of-18) from the line. Steckbauer led all scorers with 22 points, going six-of-nine from the field, four-of-six from three and a perfect six-of-six from the line. Starters Borchert, Peterson and Plamann also scored double-digit points with senior guard Will Mahoney leading the bench with 13 points. Rindfleisch recorded career highs in rebounds (11) and offensive rebounds (six). Plamann's nine assists were also a career high for him. The Titans now sit at a record of 20-5 (13-1 WIAC).

The Pointers finished shooting 50.0 percent (31-of-62) from the field, 42.3 percent (11-of-26) from three and 75.0 percent (three-of-four) from the line. Senior guard Zach Mootz led the Pointers with 20 points, going eight-of-15 from the field, three-of-six from three and one-of-two from the line. Two Pointers recorded five rebounds and junior guard AK Makinen recorded six assists. The Pointers fell to a record of 10-15 (3-11 WIAC).

WIAC Tournament Seeding

With the regular season wrapped up, the seeding of the WIAC tournament is now finalized. Oshkosh sits atop the conference with the No. 1 seed, followed by No. 2 seeded UW-La Crosse who also receives a first round bye. Third seeded UW-Whitewater will host sixth seeded UW-River Falls and No. 4 UW-Eau Claire will host No. 5 UW-Platteville.

Looking Forward

After their first round bye in the WIAC tournament, the Titans will face the highest remaining seed at home on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7:00 p.m.
