Double-Digit Points From Four Help Oshkosh Sweep UW-Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis.- Senior guard Quinn Steckbauer paced the UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team with 20 points in Wednesday's win over UW-Whitewater. Three other Titans all scored 13 points, pushing Oshkosh past the Warhawks for a regular season sweep. Oshkosh beat Whitewater at home on Wednesday, Jan. 11 by a score of 80-61.

First Half Summary

Senior guard Hunter Plamann scored the first basket of the night, but the lead quickly vanished, and the Titans trailed for the rest of the half. Six- and seven-point runs gave the Warhawks a 36-29 lead at the half.

First Half Leaders

Oshkosh shot 42.3 percent (11-of-26) from the field, 25.0 percent (one-of-four) from three and 75.0 percent (six-of-eight) from the line in the half. Sophomore forward Jonah Rindfleisch scored a team-high seven points, going three-of-three from the field and one-of-one from three. Senior guard Eric Peterson recorded four rebounds (two offensive) and freshman Carter Thomas went a perfect four-of-four from the line. 

Whitewater shot 51.5 percent (17-of-33) from the field, 28.6 percent (two-of-seven) from three and missed their only free throw in the half. Sophomore guard Jameer Barker led all scorers with 12 points, shooting six-of-nine from the field. Sophomore guard/forward Elijah Lambert recorded seven rebounds (one offensive). 

Second Half Summary

Steckbauer went on a solo 5-0 run to bring the Titans back within two to start the second half before Peterson made a layup with 16:46 remaining to give Oshkosh their first lead since Plamann's first points. Whitewater would later break a 44-44 tie with a freshman guard Miles Barnstable three that they would keep for almost five minutes. Starting with Oshkosh retaking the lead with 9:49 remaining, the lead would change five times in a little over three minutes, ending with a 6-0 Titan run led by four points from Rindfleisch. They held that lead the rest of the way, ending with a 72-68 lead as the final buzzer sounded.

Full Game Leaders

Oshkosh shot 52.7 percent (29-of-55) from the field, 40.0 percent (four-of-10) from three and 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from the line, led by Steckbauer's 20 points. He finished the game going seven-of-13 from the field, two-of-four from three and four-of-six from the line. Senior forward Levi Borchert, Plamann and Rindfleisch all scored 13 points. Rindfleisch's 13 points and six made field goals were both career-highs. Borchert and Peterson each recorded eight rebounds, while Plamann recorded three assists and Rindfleisch added three steals and two blocks. 

Whitewater shot 46.8 percent (29-of-62) from the field, 25.0 percent (three-of-12) from three and 58.3 percent (seven-of-12) from the line. Chislom led the Warhawks with 20 points, going nine-of-19 from the field, one-of-four from three and one-of-two from the line. He led all players with nine rebounds (five offensive). Barker and Barnstable also each scored double-digit points. 

Looking Forward

Saturday, Feb. 11 will be the Titans' last regular season home game of the season, playing host to UW-La Crosse in Kolf Sports Center at 5 p.m. Saturday is also the 2003 Men's Basketball Elite Eight Reunion, Senior Night and Youth Dance Clinic. In their first meeting of the season, Oshkosh beat the Eagles 78-73 on Saturday, Jan. 14 in La Crosse.
