No. 23 Titans Beat Falcons on the Road

RIVER FALLS, Wis.- The No. 23 nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh Titans defeated UW-River Falls on the road on Saturday night to extend their winning streak to eight games. 

First Half Summary

Senior guard Quinn Steckbauer opened the game with a three 16 seconds after tip-off, but seven points from the Falcons quickly put them in a hole they would spend the rest of the half fighting out of. A 7-0 run brought Oshkosh within two points with less than five minutes remaining in the half and another three from Steckbauer gave the Titans their first lead since he scored his first points. Another 5-0 run gave Oshkosh a 35-31 lead at halftime.

First Half Leaders

Oshkosh shot 46.4 percent (13-of-28) from the field, 46.2 percent (six-of-13) from three and 60.0 percent (three-of-five) from the line. Steckbauer scored nine points, shooting three-of-six from the field and three-of-four from three. Senior guard Eric Peterson recorded five rebounds, leading all players.

River Falls shot 44.8 percent (13-of-29) from the field, 25.0 percent (three-of-12) from three and 40.0 percent (two-of-five) from the line. The Falcons were led by sophomore center Rodrick Payne with seven points, shooting three-of-six from the field and one-of-three from three. Payne and junior forward Marshall Holland each recorded three rebounds. 

Second Half Summary

Peterson kept the scoring going to start the second half with a layup to extend Oshkosh's lead to six. The Titans kept the lead until sophomore guards Logan Jedwabny and Logan Parker gave the Falcons a three-point lead with just under eight minutes to play. The team traded points until Oshkosh permanently retook the lead with another Steckbauer three with five and a half minutes to go. They slowly built up their lead the rest of the way, beating the Falcons 79-70.

Full Game Leaders

The Titans shot 52.1 percent (25-of-48) from the field, 47.6 percent (10-of-21) from three and 65.5 percent. (19-of-29) from the line. Steckbauer led all scorers with 24 points, going seven-of-11 from the field, six-of-eight from three and four-of-six from the line. Senior forward Levi Borchert, Peterson and senior guard Hunter Plamann all scored double-digit points. Peterson recorded the third double-double of his career and first of the season with 12 points and a game-leading 10 rebounds. 

The Falcons finished the game shooting 50.0 percent (29-of-58) from the field, 33.3 percent (six-of-18) from three and 46.2 percent (six-of-13) from the line. Payne finished with 16 points and four rebounds, going seven-of-10 from the field, one-of-three from three and one-of-two from the line. Jedwabny, Parker and freshman center Jack Leifker all scored double-digit points as well. 

Looking Forward

The Titans return to action on the road, taking on UW-Whitewater on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. In their last meeting this season, Oshkosh beat the Warhawks at home by a score of 80-61.
