Steckbauer Leads Titans Over Pioneers; Oshkosh Extends Winning Streak to Six

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team won over UW-Platteville on Wednesday night, extending their winning streak to six games and winning their eighth home game of the season. The Titans now sit at 15-5 (8-1 WIAC) and have won all their games at home.

First Half Summary

Senior forward Levi Borchert wasted no time scoring the first points of the game with a layup after the Titans won the tip. The Pioneers tied the score up shortly after but were never able to break a tie. The longest run of the half was six points scored by Oshkosh between 8:27 and 7:31. Borchert and senior guards Hunter Plamann and Quinn Steckbauer all scored two points in the run. They never let Platteville score more than five in-a-row in the half, leading 39-33 after 20 minutes of play.

First Half Leaders

Oshkosh shot 58.3 percent (14-of-24) from the field, 62.6 percent (five-of-eight) from three and 75.0 percent (six-of-eight) from the line in the first half. Borchert and Steckbauer each scored 12 points. Senior guard Will Mahoney followed with eight points off the bench. Borchert also led with five rebounds (two offensive). 

Platteville shot 37.8 percent (14-of-37) from the field, 27.3 percent (three-of-11) from three and 100 percent (two-of-two) from the line in the first half. They were led by junior guard Ben Probst who scored 10 points, going four-of-seven from the field and two-of-four from three. Senior forward Brad Nies recorded eight rebounds (six offensive). 

Second Half Summary

Plamann followed Borchert's lead and scored the first points of the second half with a layup 36 seconds into the final 20 minutes. The Titans would go on to score eight more points, leading 49-35 before the Pioneers scored their first points of the half. They slowly built up their lead the rest of the half to the 19-point 75-56 victory.

Full Game Leaders

Oshkosh finished the game shooting 51.0 percent (25-of-49) from the field, 45.0 percent (nine-of-20) from three and 72.7 percent (16-of-22) from the line. Steckbauer paced all scorers with 25 points, going nine-of-14 from the field, five-of-eight from three and two-of-two from the line. Borchert (21) and Plamann (10) also scored double-digit points. Borchert led the Titans with eight rebounds (two offensive) and four assists. Sophomore forward Jonah Rindfleisch blocked three shots. 

Platteville finished shooting 33.3 percent (22-of-66) from the field, 30.0 percent (six-of-20) from three and 66.7 percent (six-of-nine) from the line. The Pioneers were led by junior forward Logan Pearson, who scored 15 points, going six-of-14 from the field and three-of-four from the line. Nies finished the game with 11 rebounds (seven offensive), leading all players. With the loss, the Pioneers fell to 12-8 (5-4 WIAC).

Looking Forward

The Titans continue WIAC play at home on Wednesday, Feb. 1, facing UW-Eau Claire in the Kolf Sports Center at 7 p.m. The Welcome Back Bash will occur before the game in Kolf, where there will be all kinds of food, refreshments, and games. The game itself has a beach theme and the first 100 fans will receive a free pair of sunglasses.
