Titans Win Over Blue Devils; Extend Win Streak to Five

MENOMONIE, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team extended their winning streak to five games, all against conference opponents, when they defeated the UW-Stout Blue Devils in Menomonie on Saturday afternoon.

First Half Summary

Jacob Walczak created the first points of the game, making a three after about three minutes of play. The Titans responded with six-straight to take the only lead they needed all afternoon. Each team has five-point runs, but the big difference was a 6- and an 8-point run by Oshkosh to make the score 33-20 at the half.

First Half Leaders

The Titans shot 39.3 percent (11-of-28) from the field, 46.2 percent (six-of-13) from three and 62.5 percent (five-of-eight) from the line in the half. Senior forward Levi Borchert led with nine points, going three-of-six from the field, one-of-one from three and two-of-three from the line. He also led with seven rebounds (one offensive). Senior guard Will Mahoney recorded three assists in the half.

The Blue Devils shot 22.6 percent (seven-of-31) from the field, 18.2 percent (two-of-11) from three and 100 percent (four-of-four) from the line in the half. Three Stout players scored six points in the half. Sophomore center Aidan Shore recorded five rebounds (one offensive).

Second Half Summary

Walczak repeated opening scoring in the second half with two free throws. The Blue Devils outscored the Titans 52-50 in the half with 6- and 11-point runs but couldn't overcome the existing deficit. The game ended with Oshkosh ahead 83-72.

Full Game Leaders

The Titans finished the game shooting 46.3 percent (25-of-54) from the field, 50.0 percent (12-of-24) from three and 75.0 percent (21-of-28) from three. Senior guard Hunter Plamann ended the game with a season-high 24 points, going five-of-11 from the field, five-of-eight from three and nine-of-10 from the line. Borchert, senior guard Quinn Steckbauer and Mahoney followed with 17, 16 and 12 points respectively. Borchert finished with 17 rebounds (four offensive). His 14 defensive rebounds were a season high. 

The Blue Devils shot 37.3 percent (22-of-59) from the field, 27.8 percent (five-of-18) from three and 88.5 percent (23-of-26) from the line in the game. Walczak finished with 13 points, going four-of-nine from the field, three-of-six from three and two-of-two from the line. Four other Blue Devils went two-of-two from the line. Two Stout players recorded seven rebounds and freshman guard Cooper Diedrich recorded five assists.

The Titans return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 25 to face UW-Platteville at home for College of Business Night; tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
