Titans to Open Conference Season in Platteville; Home Against Stout

OSHKOSH, Wis.- 2022-23 season WIAC conference play starts on Wednesday, with all teams playing. UW-Oshkosh goes on the road to face UW-Platteville in the season opener. On Saturday, the Titans face UW-Stout at home in their home conference opener. 

Previewing the Titans

Oshkosh has shot 41.6 percent from the field, 31.2 percent from three and 68.5 percent from the line this season, averaging 64.4 points per game. They have won their last three games, over Nebraska Wesleyan University, Edgewood College (Wis.) and Illinois Wesleyan University to increase their overall record to 5-2. Oshkosh has allowed only 279 total points for an average of 55.8 points per game, which leads the conference. Eric Peterson leads the Titans with 93 points, shooting 52/28/67. Peterson also leads with 14 steals, 19 assists and a 3.8 assist-to-turnover ratio. Rindfleisch and Peterson have each recorded six blocks so far this season. Levi Borchert has pulled down a team-leading 68 rebounds (27 offensive). 

A shoe drive for Soles4Souls will be happening on Saturday, for the game against Stout. There will be collection bins at both entrances to help those in need this holiday season.

Previewing the Pioneers

Platteville has shot 45.6 percent from the field, 34.4 percent from three and 68.9 percent from the line, averaging 74.8 points per game before conference play. The Pioneers have won their last two games, with eight-point wins over Augustana College (Ill.) and Illinois Tech, owning a 4-2 overall record so far this season. They allow an average of 69.7 points per game, ranking fifth in the league. Logan Pearson currently leads the Pioneers with 126 points, which is second in the league behind UW-Stout's Brody Fox. He has shot 47/33/86, averaging 31.3 points per game. Pearson also leads with 38 total rebounds (12 offensive) and four blocks. Brady Olson has recorded the most assists for the Pioneers with 18. 

Previewing the Blue Devils

The Blue Devils have shot 51.7 percent from the field, 34.1 percent from three and 67.3 percent from the line so far this season, scoring 84.5 points per game. After losing to Millikin University (Ill.), Stout got back in the win column with a win over Augsburg University (Minn.), making their overall record 3-3. They have allowed 82.2 points per game. Fox leads the Blue Devils with 188 points, averaging 31.3 points per game. Fox scored 70 points against Greenville University (Ill.) on Nov. 18, nearly breaking a 75-year-old conference record. The Blue Devils average 39.8 rebounds per game. George Scharlau has recorded a team-leading 18 assists, and Aidan Shore has blocked 16 shots this season.

National Rankings

Oshkosh is currently ranked 15th in the nation by D3hoops.com, having been ranked third in the preseason poll. The only other WIAC school in the national rankings is UW-La Crosse, who jumped from No. 15 to No. 4 with a 6-0 start to the season.  

Watching Records

Borchert is currently sitting at 943 career points. He has averaged 13.5 points per game this season, scoring a season-high 20 points against Lawrence University (Wis.) at home on Nov. 8th. If he reaches 1,000 points this season, he will become the 37th player in program history to reach the milestone, and the first since Adam Fravert in 2020.
