No. 3 Titans Take Down Eagles

OSHKOSH, Wis.- In a game that all 19 members of the UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team played in, the Titans took down the Edgewood College (Wis.) Eagles 79-52. Oshkosh is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation by D3hoops.com

First Half Summary

Two early turnovers by the Titans didn't slow down a 7-0 opening lead, with Hunter Plamann scoring four of the seven points. The Eagles' Adam Baierl scored Edgewood's first points of the night but couldn't string together a run. Oshkosh kept the lead until a 9-0 run by Edgewood gave them their first lead of the night. The Titans kept the game within three points, tying it up four times in the half, but entered halftime down 30-29.

First Half Leaders

Oshkosh shot 40 percent from the field, 28.6 percent from three and 60 percent from the line in the first half, compared to Edgewood's 41.4 percent, 27.3 percent and 100 percent marks. Plamann led the Titans at the half with 19 points, going five for 11 from the field including one for two from three and two for three from the line. Eric Peterson recorded the most rebounds in the half for Oshkosh with six (one offensive). Three steals by Levi Borchert gave him the lead for the half. Baierl led the Eagles with seven points after 20 minutes of play, shooting three for five from the field including one for three from three. Drew Houtakker led with five rebounds, all being defensive. 

Second Half Summary

The Titans scored first in the second half, retaking the lead with a Peterson layup 42 seconds into the half. The lead didn't last, but after a Cole Booth jump shot tied the game with 18:10 remaining in the game, Peterson made another layup to take a lead Oshkosh would never give up. After the Eagles pulled back within five points, two made free throws from Quinn Steckbauer started a 20-0 run that ended in a score of 73-48, making a decent lead into a very comfortable one. Plamann scored eight points, and Steckbauer added three more in the run, with three more Titans scoring. Oshkosh outscored Edgewood 6-4 the rest of the way, ending with a score of 79-52. 

Full-Game Leaders

Improving to 4-2 on the season, Oshkosh shot 48.1 percent from the field, 28.6 percent from three and 82.1 percent from the line. Plamann led the Titans with 23 points, followed by Peterson with 16. Plamann shot seven-of-13 from the field, including one-of-two from three and eight-of-nine from the line. He also finished with three assists. Borchert, who scored 13 points, led the Titans with 10 rebounds (three offensive) and four steals. Tuesday night's double-double was his third of the season and the 25th of his career. Reed Gunnink led the Titans' bench with 10 points, a new career high. Edgewood shot 37.5 percent from the field, 22.7 percent from three and 55.6 percent from the line. Jake Schroeckenthaler led the Eagles with 14 points, going six-of-17 from the field and two-of-four from the line. Houtakker finished with the most rebounds, recording six on the night (all defensive). Dawson Hughes was the Eagles' top scorer off the bench with seven points. The Eagles fell to 0-3 in the season.

Battle of the Titans

Oshkosh will face the No. 21 ranked Illinois Wesleyan University Titans (2-2) on Nov. 26 in Kolf Sports Center at 4 p.m. Saturday is Clash's Kids Night and admission is free with a non-perishable food item as part of an initiative to help families in the Oshkosh community.
