Titans Split Road Games With Pioneers

PLATTEVILLE, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh baseball team split Saturday's (May 4) doubleheader at UW-Platteville, losing the first game 5-4 and winning the second 11-1 in seven innings.

Oshkosh (19-17, 12-10 WIAC) recorded 19 hits and three home runs, compared to the Pioneers' (14-21, 9-13 WIAC) 11 hits and one home run.

Connor Brinkman (Jr. • New London) started on the mound for the Titans in the series opener, registering six strikeouts and allowing nine hits and a walk in 8.0 innings of work.

Leading off the top of the first inning, Jake Surane (Sr. • Lincolnshire, Ill.) hit a two RBI home run to right field, sending Jack McNamara (So. • La Grange, Ill.) home for a 2-0 lead.

Mason Kirchberg (Jr. • DeForest) started off in the top of the second with solo home run. Braydon Skenandore (So. • De Pere) then singled to right field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Brenden Max (So. • Libertyville, Ill.) later hit a double to right center, scoring Skenandore, extending Oshkosh's edge to 4-0.

The Pioneers came back in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single up the middle. In the bottom of the fifth they scored again with an RBI single to center field. An RBI triple to left center scored Platteville's third run in the bottom of the sixth. The Pioneers took the lead in the eighth inning when they scored on a solo home run and an RBI double down the left field line.

Starting game two, Connor Walters (So. • Libertyville, Ill.) pitched all 7.0 innings with five strikeouts, while allowing two hits and a walk.

Surane registered a repeat of the first game with a two run home run in the top of the first inning, this time scoring Max.

In the top of the second inning, Max hit an RBI single to center field, sending Carter Stebane (Jr. • Brillion) to second, Skenandore to third and Owen Housinger (So. • Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) home.

The Pioneers scored their only run with an RBI sacrifice fly to center field in the bottom of the third inning.

In an action packed fifth inning, Kirchberg hit an RBI single to second base, advancing Nick Shiu (Jr. • Gurnee, Ill.) to third and scoring Surane. Housinger hit an RBI bunt to the pitcher, sending Shiu home. Stebane followed up with a two RBI double to center field, scoring Housinger and Kirchberg and advancing Skenandore to third. An RBI single to center field from Max scored Skenandore and sent Stebane to third. To closed out the inning, McNamara hit a sacrifice bunt sending Stebane home for a lead of 9-1.

Housinger opened the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly to right field, sending Shiu home and Zach Taylor (Sr. • Long Grove Ill.) to third. For the Titans' final run, Skenandore hit an RBI sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Taylor on the play. The game ended with no action in the seventh inning.

The Titans will return to Kendall Murray Field on Sunday for the second set of games in the series with first pitches scheduled for noon and 3 p.m.
