Titans Split With Blue Devils On Senior Day

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh baseball team dropped Saturday's (April 27) first game against UW-Stout on Tiedemann Field at Alumni Stadium by a score of 4-2 before winning by the second walk off in as many days in the series finale, 14-4, in eight innings.

The Titans (18-16, 11-8 WIAC) registered 23 hits in the twinbill to the Blue Devils' 18. Oshkosh also committed one error to Stout's two.

Stout scored first with an RBI on a groundout double play in the third inning of game one.

Braydon Skenandore (So. • De Pere) tied the game up at 1-1 in the third inning, stealing home and Logan Schill (Fr. • Pewaukee) gave the Titans the lead in the fifth on a Carter Stebane (So. • Brillion) RBI groundout.

The Blue Devils added runs on a double and single in the sixth inning to retake the lead and extended their edge further in the top of the ninth on an RBI single.

Oshkosh went down in order in the bottom of the ninth.

LJ Waco (Sr. • Cary, Ill.) received the starting nod for the early contest. He threw 6.0 innings, striking out 10 while allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks. Parker Thompson (So. • Wauwatosa) finished the game with 2.0 innings pitched and two strikeouts. He allowed one run on three hits.

Seniors Mickey McDowell (Sr. • Coal City, Ill.), Mason Schultz (Sr. • Hawthorn Woods, Ill.), Waco, Zach Taylor (Sr. • Long Grove, Ill.) and Jake Surane (Sr. • Lincolnshire, Ill.) were all recognized between the games.

Oshkosh's starting pitcher in the second game of the day was Brett Gaynor (Fr. • Long Grove, Ill.), who fanned three across 5.2 innings. He allowed three hits on eight hits and a walk. The winning pitcher was Aaron Huibregtse (Jr. • Oostburg). He relieved Gaynor in the sixth inning, tossing the last 2.1 and striking out one with a run on three hits.

Nick Shiu (Jr. • Gurnee, Ill.) led the Titans in game two, going 4-of-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a walk.

After the Blue Devils scored on a third inning single, Chris Callas (Fr. • Mundelein, Ill.) and Surane scored Shiu and Stebane with RBI singles of their own in the fourth and fifth innings.

Stout scored two runs on a single and a fielder's choice in the top of the sixth inning and Oshkosh retook the lead for the final time in the bottom half of the frame. Kirchberg hit a leadoff solo home run and Skenandore and Brenden Max (So. • Libertyville, Ill.) walked to put runners on base. Jack McNamara (So. • La Grange, Ill.) singled to right field and advanced to second on an error while scored both Skenandore and Max. After McNamara advanced to third on a wild pitch, Surane send him home on another error.

The Blue Devils' final run was scored in the seventh inning when they hit a one-run home run with two outs.

Stebane extended Oshkosh's lead in the seventh inning with a two-run shot to left field, the Titans' second home run of the series. Scoring opened in the eighth inning when Shiu singled to right field, sending Surane and McNamara across the plate. Three more runs were recorded in back-to-back at-bats on an RBI double to left center by Kirchberg and a 2-RBI single up the middle by Owen Housinger (So. • Hawthorn Woods, Ill.). Two outs were recorded before Schill, who was pinch running for Housinger, got the Titans to a 14-4 edge when he scored on a failed pickoff attempt at second base.

The Titans will head on the road for their final regular season series at UW-Platteville (10-19, 6-11 WIAC) on May 3-4.
