Titans Beat Cardinals In Florida

AUBURNDALE, Fla.- The UW-Oshkosh baseball team opened the Russmatt Baseball Invitational in Auburndale, Florida with an 13-3 win in seven innings over Saint Mary's University (Minn.).

Jake Surane (Sr. • Lincolnshire, Ill.) went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI. He also stole three bases. Six other Titans racked up at least two hits and four joined Surane with a stolen base of their own.

Aidan Trusky (So. • Antioch, Ill.) started on the mound for Oshkosh. He pitched 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts. His first three innings went three up-three down.

The scoring parade began in the bottom of the first inning for Oshkosh when Zach Taylor (Sr. • Long Grove, Ill.) singled Jack McNamara (So. • La Grange, Ill.) home.

Surane sent Owen Housinger (So. • Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) and Brenden Max (So. • Libertyville, Ill.) in the second, giving the Titans a 3-0 edge before Saint Mary's got in the board in the third inning with two runs on an error.

Oshkosh added five runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Surane hit a solo home run in the fourth, then Nick Shiu (Jr. • Gurnee, Ill.) ran home on a passed ball and Jack McKellips (So. • Oshkosh) hit a three run home run in the fifth.

Josh Jansen (So. • DeForest) relieved Trusky with two outs in the fifth inning and got out of the inning against his first batter.

The Cardinals recorded their third and final run of the game in the sixth inning on a single.

Shiu moved the Titans' lead to seven runs in the bottom half of the inning with a home run and Max sent Carter Stebane (Jr. • Brillion) with a double to make the score 11-3.

Surane and McNamara hit singles in back-to-back at-bats to end the game in the seventh inning.

The Titans will face Mitchell College (Conn.) (3-1) at 8 a.m. central time tomorrow at Polk State College in Winter Haven, Fla.
