Titans Split Games In Sauget

SAUGET, Ill.- The UW-Oshkosh baseball team split decisions against North Park University (Ill.) and Webster University (Mo.) at Grizzlies Ballpark on Saturday (Mar. 2).

The Titans (3-1) beat the Vikings (2-5) 3-0 in their first game of the day and dropped a 8-3 decision to the Gorloks (5-1).

Jake Surane (Sr. • Lincolnshire, Ill.) led Oshkosh, going five-for-eight with an RBI and three runs scored between the games.

Connor Brinkman (Jr. • New London) started on the mound for the Titans against North Park and pitched 8.0 innings with nine strikeouts while allowing just three hits and two walks for his first win of the season.

Zach Taylor (Sr. • Long Grove, Ill.) hit a sacrifice fly to left field, sending Surane home in the bottom of the first inning. Mason Kirchberg doubled in the following at-bat and scored a run of his own when Braydon Skenandore (So. • De Pere) singled to center.

Oshkosh's third run came in the third inning after Surane singled and advanced to third on an error. Jack McNamara (So. • La Grange, Ill.) grounded out to second base, which Surane scored on.

Brinkman kept North Park off the board, going three-up, three-down in the fourth, fifth seventh innings.

Josh Jansen (So. • DeForest) pitched the ninth inning for the Titans, finishing the combined shutout and putting the Vikings down in order after the leadoff batter reached on an error. He struck out the final batter of the game.

Connor Walters (So. • Libertyville, Ill.) started for Oshkosh against Webster. He pitched 4.1 innings, allowing seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits and two walks.

The Gorloks scored three runs in the first inning and a run in the second before Surane and Taylor singled in the top of the third to put the Titans on the board. Owen Housinger (So. • Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) added another run to Oshkosh's total in the fourth inning on a groundout that sent Skenandore home. Two Webster singles scored the Gorlok's fifth, sixth and seventh runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Walters' outing ended with one out in the fifth, with Alex Windey (Jr. • Wrightstown) coming in as relief. Windey finished off the inning and forced two groundouts and a strikeout in the sixth to hold the score at 7-3.

Windey was assigned the eighth Gorlok run when they pulled a double steal that crossed the plate before the runner was tagged out on the base path.

Aaron Huibregtse (Jr. • Oostburg) threw the final inning for Oshkosh, forcing a flyout, striking out a batter swinging and allowing a single that the runner tried to stretch to a double before being thrown out at second.

The Titans will play their fourth game at Grizzles Ballpark on Sunday (Mar. 3) at noon against North Park before traveling to Auburndale, Florida for four games in the Russmatt Baseball Invitational from March 7-10.
