Titans Tally 15 Hits In Season-Opening Win

GLENDALE, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh baseball team collected 15 hits, including five for extra bases in its season-opening 11-9 win at the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Thursday (Feb. 22).

UW-Oshkosh (1-0) hit two home runs, two doubles and a triple in the contest. Jack McNamara (So. • LaGrange, Ill.) led the hitting barrage with four, followed by three from Zach Taylor (Sr. • Long Grove, Ill.), and two from both Carter Stebane (Jr. • Brillion) and Brenden Max (So. • Libertyville, Ill.).

Josh Jansen (So. • DeForest) earned the win in 4.0 innings of scoreless middle relief work and LJ Waco (Sr. • Cary, Ill.) pitched his first save of the season with a three-strikeout ninth inning.

Taylor started the Titans five-run first inning with a two-run double that was followed by an RBI single from Braydon Skenandore (So. • De Pere), a fielder's choice from Owen Housinger (So. • Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) and a passed ball run from Stebane. The Raiders (0-1) used the bottom half of the inning to score five runs of their own.

Taylor added his third RBI of the day in the second inning, hitting a single to score Jake Surane (Sr. • Lincolnshire, Ill.) home for the second time of the day.

After the Raiders tacked on a solo home run, an RBI single and a two RBI double in the third and fourth innings, McKellips kicked off scoring again for Oshkosh with a two-run home run to right field that also scored Housinger in the top of the fifth. It was the first home run of his career. Jansen came in for starting pitcher Connor Brinkman (Jr. • New London) in the bottom half of the inning. Brinkman pitched 4.0 innings in the start, striking out four while allowing 11 hits for nine runs.

Oshkosh scored three more times in the game while Jansen held MSOE scoreless in his 4.0 innings of work, racking up three strikeouts. Mason Kirchberg (Jr. • DeForest) tripled in the sixth inning to score Taylor, which tied the game up at 9-9. He then sent McNamara home on a sacrifice fly to center in the eighth inning for the lead and Max also hit the first home run of his career in the top of the ninth down the right field line.

Waco finished the game off from the rubber in the bottom of the ninth inning, striking out his first batter faced, walking the second and striking out the following two for the save.

The Titans will face the Raiders again on Saturday (Feb. 24) for another game in Glendale at 2 p.m.
