Titan Baseball Set to Return for 2023 Season; Picked to Finish Fourth in WIAC

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh baseball team is set to return for the 2023 season with 25 letterwinners returning, including eight starting position players, five pitchers with starting experience and five with saves. 

Oshkosh finished the 2022 season with a 24-19 (16-12 WIAC) record, taking fourth in the WIAC. In the WIAC tournament as the No. 4 seed, the Titans defeated No. 1 UW-Whitewater on the first day, eliminated No. 3 UW-La Crosse and dropped a game to No. 2 UW-Stevens Point on the second day and fell again to Stevens Point in the title game.

Head coach Kevin Tomasiewicz is headed into his 10th year at the helm, owning a 182-150-1 record.

2022 Honors

2022 All-WIAC First Team members, senior shortstop Matt Scherrman, junior second baseman Jake Surane and sophomore pitcher Connor Brinkman are all returning to the field for the Titans. Brinkman was also named the 2022 Newcomer of the Year. Surane was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Region IX Second Team and Scherrman earned Third Team honors.

Other notable returning players include senior outfielders Jackson Broom and Ethan Schreier, sophomore designated hitter Nick Shiu, senior pitchers Cameron Mulvihill and LJ Waco and junior pitcher Matt Sorrells.

Opening Against North Park

The Titans open the season on the road in Chicago, Ill. on Saturday, February 25 to face North Park University for a doubleheader at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

2023 Schedule

After opening their season at North Park, Oshkosh heads to play three games at Webster University (Mo.). They face Hanover College (Ind.) on March 3, Webster on March 4 and North Park on March 5.

Staying on the road, the Titans will play three games at Transylvania University (Ky.). They play DePauw University (Ind.) on March 11, followed by games against Transylvania later on the 11th and a game on March 12. 

In their final non-conference games of the year, Oshkosh will play three games at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.) on March 18 and 19.

Opening conference play at home, the Titans host Finlandia University for two doubleheaders on March 25 and 26. They stay home for another set of two doubleheaders against UW-Whitewater on April 1 and 2.

Oshkosh then heads on the road for doubleheaders at UW-Eau Claire on April 7 and 8 and at UW-Stout on April 15 and 16. 

Home for two more weeks of doubleheaders, the Titans will host UW-Platteville on April 22 and 23 and UW-La Crosse on April 29 and 30.

They play their final regular season games of the year at UW-Stevens Point on May 5 and 6 before the WIAC tournament from May 11-13.
