Five Titans Voted To All-WIAC Baseball Team

UW-Oshkosh had five players, including its entire starting infield, named to the 2013 All-WIAC Baseball Team.

First baseman Bobby Kachel (Jr. • La Crosse), second baseman Tyler Kamps (Sr. • Appleton), shortstop Michael Polcyn (So. • Ripon) and third baseman Michael Swift (So. • Kenosha), along with pitcher Joe Pavlovich (So. • Denmark), made the squad chosen by league coaches.

Kachel ranks among the NCAA Division III leaders with 11 home runs, 55 RBI and a .780 slugging percentage. He batted .386 while totaling 15 doubles and 38 runs scored. On April 24, Kachel smashed three homers during a tripleheader with UW-Whitewater.

Kamps topped the conference in both triples (7) and slugging (.791). He posted a .388 average with eight homers, 14 doubles, 41 runs and 36 RBI. Kamps compiled four-hit games against both UW-La Crosse and UW-Stout.

In 146 career games, Kamps totaled 185 hits and a .322 batting average. He ranks seventh in WIAC history for triples (11) and ninth in doubles (45). Kamps also booked 11 home runs, 104 runs scored and 109 RBI.

UW-Oshkosh's leading hitter at .409, Swift compiled three homers, five triples, 13 doubles, 34 runs and 35 RBI. He totaled four hits, including two round-trippers, during the WIAC Tournament.

Polcyn racked up 20 multi-hit games while batting .377 with six homers, three triples and 11 doubles. He drove home 38 and topped the Titans with 51 runs and 17 walks. Polcyn went 4-for-4 with five runs during a 16-13 win over UW-Stout.

Pavlovich paced the pitching staff with a 5-1 record and 4.15 ERA in nine games (47.2 innings). He struck out 34 batters while walking 16. Against UW-Platteville, Pavlovich threw a five-hit shutout with four K.

The 20-man All-WIAC Team included eight players from UW-Whitewater. The Warhawks had Marty Herum named Position Player of the Year and John Vodenlich honored as Coach of the Year. JP Feyereisen (UW-Stevens Point) received Pitcher of the Year, while Adam Cordova (UW-La Crosse) earned the Scholar-Athlete award.

UW-Oshkosh finished the season 23-14 for its 43rd winning record in 46 years.
