Sabres’ Pitching Locks Down Titans

Jeff Thomas and Sam Memenga formed a strong pitching duo in Marian University's 6-4 win over UW-Oshkosh on Monday (April 29) at E.J. Schneider Field.

Thomas allowed three earned runs with five strikeouts over the first 6.2 innings. Memenga then fired two scoreless frames to pick up the save.

The Titans (18-9) were able to strike first after Tyler Kamps (Sr. • Appleton) tripled in the opening frame. Michael Swift (So. • Kenosha) grounded out to score him and make it 1-0.

Marian (18-13) came right back with three doubles in a row. Will Martin and Adam Ryan hit consecutive two-baggers to take the lead.

Neil Hebert (So. • Stanley), who finished 2-for-2, ripped a RBI single during the second that pulled UW-Oshkosh within 3-2. He posted another run-scoring hit in the sixth that made it 5-4.

The Sabres stayed in front with runs on a Cole Miklavcic single and a Ty Gellinger sacrifice fly.

UW-Oshkosh utilized four pitchers, with starter Chad Wyss (Jr. • New Lisbon) taking the loss. Wyss surrendered three runs while getting four outs. James Lacy (Jr. • Shawano) pitched later and went four innings with one unearned run.

The Titans visit UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday (May 1). The Pointers are currently second in the WIAC standings at 12-4.
