Titans Achieve Mixed Results

Joe Pavlovich (So. • Denmark) had a no-hitter into the sixth inning as UW-Oshkosh topped Utica College (N.Y.) by a 9-6 score on Friday (March 22) in Fort Myers, Fla.

The Titans suffered a 6-5 defeat to Johns Hopkins University (Md.) in their second game of the day.

Pavlovich retired the first 12 Pioneers he faced. During the fifth inning, he walked a man but got out of it with a double play. Pavlovich finished with six strikeouts and two hits allowed over 6.2 frames.

UW-Oshkosh (9-1) scored once in each of the first three innings. During the fourth, Bobby Kachel (Sr. • La Crosse) crushed a two-run triple to center that gave the Titans a 6-0 lead.

Utica (1-7) was able to score on a throwing error and wild pitch to pull closer. Chris Podlucky, who totaled two of his team's four hits, marked a RBI single during the eighth.

The Titans compiled 12 hits, including three apiece from Doug Beattie (Sr. • Escanaba, Mich.) and Zac Peterson (Jr. • Suamico).

Chris Jeffers was the losing pitcher after giving up five earned runs in 3.1 innings. Joshua Webb then tossed 3.2 scoreless frames with three K.

The Blue Jays (13-2) used a 4-for-4 performance by leadoff man Adam Weiner to hand UW-Oshkosh its first loss of the season.

Johns Hopkins went ahead, 2-0, with runs in the first and fourth innings. The Titans then exploded for three runs in the fifth. The damage came on a double by Beattie, a single by Michael Polcyn (So. • Ripon) and a triple from Michael Swift (So. • Kenosha).

Weiner marked a RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score, 3-3. During the sixth, Jeff Lynch and Matt Ricci each posted a run-scoring double for the two-run cushion.

The Titans scored twice in the eighth, but went 1-2-3 in the ninth to fall one run short.

Zach Augustine recorded the final four outs for a save. Justin Drechsel (win) fired two scoreless innings after starter Carter Burns went five innings with three ER.

The loss fell on Brock Guetzke (Sr. • Hartford), who surrendered six runs on 12 hits over seven frames.
