
Eagles Mark Early Lead And Hold On
UW-La Crosse jumped to a 5-0 advantage and then survived a ninth-inning scare during its 9-6 baseball triumph over UW-Oshkosh on Monday (April 8) at Tiedemann Field. The Titans (12-3/1-2 WIAC) are ranked 21st by D3baseball.com.
Facing a six-run deficit in their final at-bat, the Titans scored on singles from Bobby Kachel (Sr. • La Crosse) and Brock Guetzke (Sr. • Hartford). A walk drove home another run and made it 9-6. With the trying run on first base, Doug Beattie (Sr. • Escanaba, Mich.) hit a fly ball to right field that was caught to end the contest.
Adam Cordova posted four RBI to lead the Eagles (9-6/2-1 WIAC). He delivered a two-run single in the sixth inning and a run-scoring single during the second.
UW-La Crosse's three-run first inning featured RBI singles from Cole Cefalu and Jake Paulson.
UW-Oshkosh chipped away with tallies in the second, third and sixth frames. Guetzke, Neil Hebert (So. • Stanley) and Michael Swift (So. • Kenosha) each contributed a run-scoring single.
During the eighth, Brooks Braga smacked a single through the right side that made it 8-3.
Joel Effertz went six strong innings, allowing three runs with four strikeouts, for the win. Skyler Debilzen then finished the last three frames for a save.
Of the five pitchers used by UW-Oshkosh, Swift took the loss. He yielded three runs while tossing the opening frame.
The Titans visit nationally ranked UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday (April 10).
