Titans Complete Perfect Weekend Against Blue Devils

Tyler Kamps (Jr. • Appleton) counted five hits as UW-Oshkosh won both baseball games over UW-Stout to finish a four-game sweep on Sunday (April 22) at Tiedemann Field.

In the opener, Brock Guetzke (Jr. • Hartford) struck out eight batters during an 8-3 victory. The Titans (13-16/9-9 WIAC) took the second game, 10-3, thanks to scoring in six different innings. UW-Oshkosh obtained its first 4-0 series win since the 2009 season.

UW-Stout (15-17/5-13 WIAC) posted a pair of run-scoring groundouts to take the lead during the opener's third frame. The Titans then equaled the score in the fourth, using an error and Michael Swift's (Fr. • Kenosha) grounder.

Jake Dostalek (So. • Waterford) put UW-Oshkosh ahead, 3-2, with his fifth-inning single. Kamps then added to the lead with a single in the sixth and a two-run homer during the eighth. A two-run double from Alex Mullendore (Sr. • Glendale Heights, Ill.) plated the Titans' final score.

Guetzke went 5.2 frames out of the bullpen, allowing just a solo homer to AJ Yusten, for the win. Matt Wells (Jr. • Little Chute) started and allowed two unearned runs over 3.1 innings.

The loss went to Tyler Hamann, who surrendered four unearned runs in 6.2 innings. Andrew Driessen yielded the final four runs in 1.1 innings of work.

UW-Stout again took an early lead in the nightcap, with Matt Guida's single making it 1-0. This time, Dostalek tied the score with a single and Mullendore delivered a two-run single for go on top, 3-1.

The Titans put the game out of reach with three runs in the sixth and two more in the eighth. Following a RBI single from Mullendore during the fifth, Michael Polcyn (Fr. • Ripon) continued his hot streak with RBI on a triple and single. Guetzke added a run-scoring double during the sixth to make it a 7-3 margin.

Brett Vavra, who had two hits in the contest, notched a RBI single for UW-Stout's third tally. Matt Guida was the other Blue Devil with a pair of hits.

Travis Sindles (So. • Twin Lakes) put 10 men on base over six innings, but he allowed just three runs for the victory. Troy Mrkvicka (Sr. • Greendale) surrendered one hit during the last three frames for the save.

Four different Blue Devils allowed two-plus runs, with Zach Kiminski (four runs) taking the loss after 4.2 innings. John Ewald and Ian Schiltz each yielded two runs while getting four outs.

UW-Oshkosh, now fourth in the conference standings, faces UW-Stevens Point (22-8) on Wednesday (April 25) at Tiedemann Field.
