Titans Start Strong At Ripon Winter Open

RIPON, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh women's track & field team started the year off with a win at the Ripon College Winter Open on Saturday (Dec. 2), scoring 228 points to win the eight team field.

Viterbo University was second with 102 points, followed by Carroll University with 83 points.

The Titans started off the meet with a hot start on the track, finishing with seven top-three placings. Gwen Feitl (So. • Wheaton, Ill.) won the 3,000-meter run in a time of 11:16.27. Zoe Watson (Fr. • Kiel) took third in 11:31.95. Cyna Madigan (Jr. • Rosendale) won the mile run in 5:05.42 and Meygan Benzing (Sr. • Juneau) grabbed third with 5:17.74. In the 400-meter dash, Olivia Stenzel (So. • Sturgeon Bay) won in a time of 1:02.74, and Alaina Wagner (Jr. • Mayville) took third with a time of 1:03.65. Megan Hunt (Jr. • Lemont, Ill.) took third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.27 seconds.

The Titans qualified three athletes to the 60-meter dash finals, with Ella Ahlstrand (Fr. • Plymouth) winning in 7.94 seconds. In the 800-meter run, Libby Geisness (Sr. • Waukesha) won with a time of 2:22.70. The Titans swept the 200-meter dash, with Maddy LaVoi (Fr. • Ankey, Iowa) leading the way in 26.51 seconds. She was followed by Julia Steger (Fr. • Kewauskum) in 26.55 seconds and Jayda Dobeck (Jr. • Green Bay) in 27.08 seconds. The Titans won the 4x400 meter relay in 4:11.86.

In the field, Mikayla Jackson (Sr. • Neenah) took second in the long jump with a 5.26-meter jump. Alexa Gordee (Fr. • Appleton) and Haley Kanitz (So. • Menomonee Falls) took second and third in the triple jump. Gordee jumped 10.80 meters and Kanitz jumped 10.72 meters. Kanitz also finished second in the pole vault with a mark of 3.18 meters. Hunt won the high jump in 1.60 meters, followed by Aimee Footit (So. • Oshkosh) in 1.55. Brenna Masloroff (Sr. • Franklin) won the weight throw, throwing 17.35 meters. She also took third in the shot put, throwing 13.16 meters.

Following their victory, the Titans will host their own meet next week on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 8-9).
