Six Event Wins Leads Titans to Strong Red Hawk Opener

RIPON, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh women's track & field team won six events at the Ripon College (Wis.) Red Hawk Opener on Saturday. There were no team scores in the meet.

They competed against athletes from the Atlanta Track Club (Ga.), Lakeland University (Wis.), Lawrence University (Wis.), Trinity Christian College (Ill.), and Division I University of Wisconsin.

Track Events

Devon Tomas was the top mile run finisher for the Titans with a time of 5:36.90. Gracie Buchinger took fifth and Jamie Catania took sixth to round out the top finishers.

Cyna Madigan won the 400-meter dash in 59.27 seconds, 15th in program history and the fastest run for the Titans this season. Alaina Wagner finished in 1:03.79, good for third. Vanessa Jenneman finished in 1:04.67, a fourth-place finish. Emily Zielinski rounded out the Titans' top-eight finishers with a 1:07.92, seventh-place finish.

Megan Hunt led Oshkosh with a second-place, 9.93 second finish in the 60-meter hurdles. Anna Bubolz also raced, finishing in 11.24 seconds for sixth.

As the three Titans that qualified for the 60-meter finals, Rachel Castelli took second (7.98), Molly Greeninger took third (8.01) and Liz Hren took fourth (8.19).

Josie Makurat led the Titans in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:20.52. Amelia Lehman, Paige Hagner, Sydney Fricke, and Lauren Urban took the following four places and Ella Galaszewski took eighth.

Madigan was the only runner from Oshkosh to compete in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 27.82 seconds.

Meygan Benzing ran the 3,000-meter run in 11:05.30, taking third.

As one of four Oshkosh 4x400 relay squads, the first-place team finished in 4:18.25. The other three squads finished in second, fifth and eighth.

Field Events

Jenneman won the long jump crown with a best jump of 5.04 meters. Castelli took fourth with a 4.38-meter jump.

In the triple jump, Haley Kanitz won with a 10.57-meter mark. Wagner also placed (fifth) with a 9.02-meter mark.

Bubolz and Hunt tied for second in the high jump with marks of 1.48 meters.

Kanitz was the only competitor to participate in the pole vault, and therefore won with a 2.90-meter vault.

Six Badgers took the top six places in the 20-lb. weight throw, followed by Brenna Masloroff (17.21 meters) and Bobbi Blahnik (15.16). Masloroff's mark was good for 15th in program history.

The top Division III placer, Katie Fruth took second with a 13.64-meter mark, 18th in program history. Masloroff (second), Micky Barrette (fifth) and Blahnik (eighth) also placed.

Looking Forward

The Titans return to action on Friday, Jan. 27 to compete in the two-day Warren Bowlus Open hosted by UW-Stout. The meet starts at 3 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday.
