Demco Runs To A Pair Of All-America Track & Field Awards

Alexandria Demco ran to a pair of All-America performances for the second consecutive year to pace UW-Oshkosh at the 40th National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships that concluded three consecutive days of competition Saturday (May 28) at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Demco, UW-Oshkosh's lone All-American at this year's championships, finished fourth in the 1,500- and seventh in the 800-meter runs with times of 4:30.39 and 2:09.35, respectively. Demco's time in the 800-meter run was a season best.

Esther Seeland of Messiah College (Pa.) won both the 800- and 1,500-meter runs at with times of 2:04.68 and 4:27.71, respectively.

Demco placed fifth in the 1,500-meter run and sixth in the 800-meter race at last year's championships.

UW-Oshkosh was also represented at this year's championships by senior Ashton Keene and junior Katie Fruth.

Keene finished 12th in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 37:00.77 and 19th in the 5,000-meter race with an effort of 18:07.52.

Ari Marks of Wellesley College (Mass.) won both the 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs with times of 16:08.90 and 34:50.55, respectively.

Fruth placed 12th in the shot put with a measurement of 45-0 1/2.

UW-Platteville's Brianna Leahy won the shot put competition with a throw of 51-1 1/4.

This year's championships featured 22 entrants in each of the 19 individual events and 16 contestants in both two relays. The top-eight finishers in each event earned All-America honors.

UW-Oshkosh finished 41st in this year's team standings with seven points, all by Demco.

Loras College (Iowa) scored 55 points to win its third consecutive Division III outdoor title. UW-La Crosse finished second to the Duhawks with 51 points while Johns Hopkins University (Md.) and Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) both placed third with 38 and Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) fifth with 25.

A total of 69 teams scored points at this year's championships. 

UW-Oshkosh, which owns a division-record nine outdoor titles, has now scored at least three points at 34 of the past 35 national meets. The Titans claimed Division III outdoor championships in 1990, 1991, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2011. UW-Oshkosh also possesses nine second- and three third-place outdoor finishes in program history.
