Geisness Wins 1,500-Meter Run At UW-Platteville Invitational

Libby Geisness won the 1,500-meter run, Brenna Masloroff finished second in the hammer throw and Ashton Keene placed third in the 5,000-meter run to pace UW-Oshkosh at the UW-Platteville Women's Track & Field Invitational held Friday (April 15).

UW-Oshkosh scored 15 points in both the 1,500-meter run and hammer throw to finish sixth in the team competition with 58.5 points.

UW-La Crosse won the 11-team meet held on a chilly and windy day with 225.83 points. UW-Eau Claire placed second to the Eagles with 102.16 points while UW-Stevens Point finished third with 74.5, Wartburg College (Iowa) fourth with 73 and UW-Platteville fifth with 63.

Geisness defeated the 31 other participants in the 1,500-meter run with her winning time of 4:50.14. Kirstie Ramsey of UW-Platteville finished second in the race with a time of 4:52.60 while UW-Oshkosh's Meygan Benzing placed fourth in 5:00.71.

Masloroff earned her second-place finish in the hammer throw with a measurement of 153-4. The event featured 44 contestants, including UW-La Crosse's Skye Digman who won the event with a distance of 175-1. UW-Oshkosh's Skyler Genz finished fifth and Elise Deaver sixth in the hammer throw with marks of 146-2 and 143-11, respectively.

Keene recorded this season's 13th-fastest NCAA Division III time in the 5,000-meter run with her third-place performance of 16:57.27. A total of 69 runners competed in the race, including Aubrie Fisher of Wartburg College who won the event with a time of 16:48.24.

UW-Oshkosh's Cyna Madigan added a fourth-place time of 1:00.04 in the 400-meter run while Titan Riley Kindt finished fifth in the javelin and sixth in the high jump with measurements of 104-5 and 5-1 1/4, respectively. 

The Titans also received a fifth-place throw of 40-0 1/4 in the shot put from Katie Fruth, fifth-place cast of 126-11 in the discus from Michaela Barrette and sixth-place leap of 17-1 1/4 in the long jump from Vanessa Jenneman.

UW-Oshkosh will compete at the UW-La Crosse Phil Esten Challenge next Friday and Saturday (April 22-23).
