Keene's Record Run Paces Titans In Outdoor Debut

Ashton Keene ran to a school record as UW-Oshkosh opened its 2022 women's outdoor track & field season by sending athletes to both the Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) Invitational and UW-Platteville Pioneer Opener held Friday and Saturday (April 1-2).

Keene broke the UW-Oshkosh 10,000-meter run record with her third-place time of 35:43.87 at the Washington University in St. Louis Invitational. Keene's performance among the event's 48 runners shattered the previous school record of 36:08.23 set by Hannah Kuenzi in 2016.

Emma Walter of Washington University in St. Louis won the 10,000-meter run with a time of 35:21.49 while Chloe Figgins of the University of Memphis (Tenn.) finished second in 35:35.90.

The Titans had two other top eight finishers at the Washington University in St. Louis Invitational – Alexandria Demco and Libby Geisness in the 800-meter run.

Demco finished second among the event's 26 contestants with her time of 2:14.81 while Geisness placed fourth in 2:19.18. Emma Kelley of Washington University in St. Louis won the race with a time of 2:10.20.

UW-Oshkosh dominated the throwing events at the UW-Platteville Pioneer Opener as Brenna Masloroff placed in the top eight in three events while Elise Deaver, Katie Fruth and Allie Marineau each placed in the top eight in two.

Masloroff finished second in the hammer throw with a measurement of 164-11 while Deaver placed fourth at 138-10 and Marineau sixth at 136-5. Kaitlyn Wilder of the University of Dubuque (Iowa) defeated her 37 challengers in the event with her first-place cast of 176-9.

In the discus, Masloroff ranked third with her distance of 128-4 and Deaver fourth at 116-9. Wilder won the event of 29 contestants with her mark of 143-2. 

The shot put featured Fruth finishing fourth with a throw of 42-4 3/4, Masloroff fifth at 42-3 1/2 and Marineau seventh at 37-11 1/2. The event featured 34 participants, including UW-Platteville's Brianna Leahy who captured first place with her toss of 46-5 1/4. 

UW-Oshkosh had two place winners in the javelin as Cara Volz finished second with a measurement of 101-6 and Fruth fourth at 97-10. UW-Platteville's Alivia Auer placed first among the event's 26 entrants with her distance of 119-1. 

The Titans scored 13 points at the Washington University in St. Louis Invitational to finish seventh in the team competition. Washington University in St. Louis won the nine-team meet with 313.5 points while Rhodes College (Tenn.) finished second with 114.5. 

No team scores were kept at the UW-Platteville Pioneer Opener. 

UW-Oshkosh will send athletes to the UW-La Crosse Ashton May Invitational on Saturday (April 9).
