Titans Win Five Events, Place Second At UW-Platteville Border Battle

Riley Kindt earned victories in both the 100-meter hurdles and high jump as the UW-Oshkosh women's track & field team finished second among five programs at the UW-Platteville Border Battle held Friday (April 30) in Platteville.

The University of Dubuque (Iowa) captured the team title with 151 points while UW-Oshkosh placed second with 109.5, UW-Platteville third with 108.5, UW-Whitewater fourth with 81 and UW-Stevens Point fifth with 60.

UW-Oshkosh won five events during the meet and totaled 20 top-six finishes overall.

Kindt defeated 11 other contestants in the 100-meter hurdles with her time of 15.05 seconds. Titans Nakayla Morgan finished second in the event with a time of 15.50 seconds and Katie Retzlaff fifth at 16.22.

In the high jump, Kindt beat six other challengers with her height of 5-3. UW-Stevens Point's Makenzie Ward finished in the event with a leap of 5-1.

Other event winners for the Titans were Morgan Florek in the discus, Drue Polka in the 400-meter hurdles and Emma Warr in the pole vault.

Florek took first place in the discus with a measurement of 141-3. She defeated 18 other challengers, including University of Dubuque's Mackenzie Goeller who finished second with a throw of 134-3. UW-Oshkosh's Michaela Barrette placed fourth and Taya Fleischman fifth with distances of 127-1 and 126-8, respectively.

Polka produced a time of 1:08.96 as the lone entrant in the 400-meter hurdles.

Warr and UW-Whitewater's Gracie Holland shared first place in the pole vault with their heights of 11-9. UW-Platteville's Jordan Meciej finished third among the event's 11 participants with a vault of 11-3.

UW-Oshkosh had two additional second-place results as Vanessa Jenneman recorded a time of 1:00.70 in the 400-meter run and Cara Volz a skip of 36-10 1/2 in the triple jump.

Titan Alaina Wagner contributed a pair of third-place finishes with her performances of 1:01.47 in the 400-meter run and 17-4 3/4 in the long jump.

Other fourth-place listings went to Rachel Castelli with her time of 26.37 seconds in the 200-meter dash, Elise Deaver with her throw of 95-8 in the javelin and Kyra Huber with her time of 12.75 seconds in the 100-meter dash.

Titan Elizabeth Hren finished fifth in the 200- and sixth in the 100-meter dashes with times of 26.37 and 12.90 seconds, respectively, while Barrette placed sixth in the javelin with a measurement of 95-11.

UW-Oshkosh's Amanda Starzynski shared sixth place in the long jump with a leap of 17-2.

The Titans were also represented at the Wartburg College Friday Night Lights Meet on Friday in Waverly, Iowa.

All three of UW-Oshkosh's place-winning performances at the meet came in the 800-meter run, where Alexandria Demco defeated 16 other contestants with her time of 2:12.76 that ranks fifth in the NCAA Division III this outdoor season. Wartburg College's Carson McSorley finished second in the race with a time of 2:15.55 while Titans Libby Geisness and Daisy Wilson placed third and sixth with times of 2:16.69 and 2:23.86, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh finished fifth in the team scoring with 19 points. UW-La Crosse won the five-team meet with 217.25 points while Wartburg College placed second with 170.25 and Loras College (Iowa) third with 168.

UW-Oshkosh competes at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship (presented by Culver's) next Friday and Saturday (May 7-8) in River Falls. The 11-time WIAC champion Titans finished fifth at the 2019 league championship with 69 points. The 2020 WIAC Championship was canceled due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
