Thompson Wins A Pair Of Throwing Events Against Pointers

UW-Oshkosh's Sydney Thompson took first place in both the discus and shot put competitions while Cara Volz won the javelin throw during a women's five-event track & field meet against UW-Stevens Point on Thursday (April 29) at the Oshkosh Sports Complex.

The non-scoring contest featured battles in the discus, hammer throw, high jump, javelin and shot put.

Thompson defeated 15 other challengers in the discus with her winning measurement of 148-3 that ranks fifth in the NCAA Division III this outdoor season. Titans Morgan Florek finished second in the event with a distance of 133-3 and Michaela Barrette fourth at 128-5.

Thompson won the shot put with a toss of 46-4. UW-Oshkosh also had Taya Fleischman finish third and Florek fourth among the event's 19 contestants with marks of 41-3 and 41-1, respectively.

Thompson also placed second in the hammer throw with a distance of 168-9 that ranks 14th nationally. Titans Kahley Logan finished third with a cast of 152-2 and Elise Deaver fourth at 147-10.

Volz beat eight other participants in the javelin with her measurement of 132-1 that ranks 14th in the country. UW-Oshkosh's Katie Fruth placed third and Deaver fourth with distances of 100-4 and 97-0, respectively.

The Titans also had Riley Kindt finish third in the high jump with a height of 5-0 1/2 and Anna Bubolz fourth at 4-10 1/2.

UW-Oshkosh will be represented at both the UW-Platteville Border Battle and Wartburg College (Iowa) Friday Night Lights Meet on Friday (April 30).
