Titans Win Four Events, Total 29 Place Winners At May/Esten Meet

The UW-Oshkosh women's track & field team recorded four first- and two second-place finishes at the UW-La Crosse Ashton May/Phil Esten Meet held Friday and Saturday (April 16-17) in La Crosse.

UW-Oshkosh, which totaled 29 top-eight performances overall, ranked third in the team competition with 143 points. UW-La Crosse claimed the team title with 217.5 points while UW-Eau Claire finished second with 168.5 and UW-Stout fourth with 77.

UW-Oshkosh was led by Sydney Thompson, who won both the discus and shot put competitions while placing third in the hammer throw.

Thompson defeated 28 other discus contestants with a measurement of 145-11 that ranks fifth in the NCAA Division III this outdoor season. UW-La Crosse's Skye Digman finished second to Thompson with a distance of 144-7 and UW-Oshkosh's Michaela Barrette fourth at 131-0.

In the shot put, Thompson ousted 27 other challengers with her throw of 44-11 1/2. Digman placed second in the event with a mark of 44-11 and UW-Oshkosh's Taya Fleischman seventh at 40-11 1/2. Thompson ranks fifth nationally in the shot put with a toss of 45-4 1/2 that was measured at the UW-Whitewater Rex Foster Twilight Invitational held April 2.

Thompson finished third in the hammer throw with a cast of 168-0 that ranks 13th in the country. Digman won the event with a distance of 179-6 while UW-Oshkosh's Brenna Masloroff placed sixth at 156-10.

UW-Oshkosh's Meygan Benzing finished second among the event's nine runners with a time of 4:59.23 while Titans Elizabeth Reddeman placed fourth in 5:20.15, Daisy Wilson fifth in 5:20.20, Alexis Reichardt seventh in 5:46.69 and Melissa Schneider eighth in 5:51.57.

Riley Kindt led four UW-Oshkosh place winners in the 100-meter hurdles with her victorious time of 14.88 seconds that ranks 15th nationally. Titan Nakayla Morgan finished fourth among the event's eight contestants with a time of 15.46 seconds while UW-Oshkosh teammates Katie Retzlaff placed fifth and Drue Polka sixth in 15.68 and 15.71, respectively.

The Titans also received a second-place distance of 113-5 in the javelin from Cara Volz and fourth-place results of 12.36 seconds in the 100-meter dash from Mikayla Jackson, 17.51.30 in the 5,000-meter run from Alexandria Demco, 10-10 3/4 in the pole vault from Emma Warr and 101-1 in the javelin from Katie Fruth.

UW-Oshkosh completed its list of individual place winners with Barrette's seventh-place measurement of 72-4 in the javelin, Polka's fifth-place time of 1:14.42 in the 400-meter hurdles, Volz's fifth-place mark of 36-5 3/4 in the triple jump, Elise Deaver's fifth-place distance of 85-1 in the javelin and Kyra Huber's eighth-place time of 12.86 seconds in the 100-meter dash.

In the 400-meter relay, UW-Oshkosh had a pair of place-winning performances. Huber, Jackson, Kindt and Elizabeth Hren finished third in the race with a time of 48.81 seconds while Macy Brzeczkowski, Vanessa Jenneman, Alaina Wagner and Julie Weber placed fourth in 50.26.

Benzing, Lohrenz, Reichardt and Wilson ran on the Titans' 1,600-meter relay squad that finished fourth with a time of 4:16.78.

UW-Oshkosh competes at the St. Norbert College Invitational next Saturday (April 24) in De Pere.
