Titans Have 40 Top-Eight Performances At Rex Foster Invitational

The UW-Oshkosh women's track & field team totaled eight first-place finishes among its impressive 40 top-eight listings at the UW-Whitewater Rex Foster Twilight Invitational held Friday (April 2).

Team scores were not tabulated for the meet, which involved participants from Milwaukee School of Engineering, UW-Platteville, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Whitewater and Wheaton College (Ill.) in addition to UW-Oshkosh.

UW-Oshkosh's eight first-place performances were followed by four second-place efforts and three third- and fourth-place feats.

Titan Sydney Thompson won both the hammer throw and shot put while finishing third in the discus. UW-Oshkosh teammate Morgan Florek won the discus while placing second in both the hammer throw and shot put.

On the track, UW-Oshkosh's Mikayla Jackson won the 100-meter dash while finishing third at 200 meters.

Thompson defeated 31 other contestants in the shot put with her NCAA Division III-leading measurement of 45-4 1/2. Florek finished second with a distance of 43-10 while UW-Oshkosh's Brenna Masloroff placed fifth at 40-0 3/4, Kassie Wicherski sixth at 39-1, Kahley Logan seventh at 38-4 and Taya Fleischman eighth at 37-7 3/4. Florek's throw ranks sixth nationally this outdoor season.

In the hammer throw, Thompson ousted 25 other challengers with a mark of 165-4 that ranks seventh in the country. The Titans also had Florek finish second with a cast of 157-5, Masloroff third at 144-7, Logan fifth at 141-5 and Elise Deaver sixth at 138-1.

Florek won the discus with a mark of 141-11 that also ranks fourth nationally. Florek beat 29 other competitors, including UW-Oshkosh's Thompson who finished third with a throw of 134-5 and Fleischman who placed fifth at 117-7.

Jackson outran 27 other sprinters in the 100-meter dash with her time of 12.33 seconds. The Titans also had Elizabeth Hren finish fourth with a time of 12.86 seconds, Macy Brzeczkowski fifth at 12.90, Julie Weber sixth at 13.13 and Kyra Huber seventh at 13.20.

In the 200-meter dash, Jackson finished third with a time of 25.67 seconds while UW-Oshkosh teammates Alaina Wagner placed fifth at 26.66 seconds, Hren sixth at 26.70 and Vanessa Jenneman eighth at 26.75.

Alexandria Demco helped the Titans win two events, the 1,500-meter run and the 1,600-meter relay.

In the 1,500-meter run, Demco defeated nine other contestants with her winning time of 4:45.52. UW-Oshkosh's Meygan Benzing finished fifth in the race with her time of 5:04.25.

Demco also ran with Libby Geisness, Hannah Lohrenz and Erika Mullen for a first-place time of 4:22.45 in the 1,600-meter relay. The group defeated one other challenger.

Other event winners for UW-Oshkosh were Alexandria Steger in the javelin and Cara Volz in the triple jump.

Steger ousted 17 other participants in the javelin with her throw of 124-1 while UW-Oshkosh's Elise Deaver finished fourth at 96-8 and Katie Fruth seventh at 88-6.

Volz conquered seven other competitors in the triple jump with her measurement of 36-6 1/4. Titan Riley Kindt placed fifth in the event with a skip of 35-4 1/2.

The Titans had three place winners in both the 400-meter run and long jump.

Geisness finished second in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:02.46 while Mullen placed fourth at 1:04.96 and Lauren Rabe eighth at 1:10.43.

In the long jump, Jenneman listed second with a leap of 17-7 1/2 while Amanda Starzynski finished seventh at 16-0 1/2 and Anna Bubolz eighth at 15-10 1/2.

UW-Oshkosh's Kindt and Drue Polka added fourth-place times of 14.98 seconds in the 100- and 1:12.53 in the 400-meter hurdles, respectively, while Nakayla Morgan placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.71 seconds.

The Titans return to action April 10 at the UW-Platteville Invitational.
