Titans Return To Outdoor Competition Saturday In Waukesha

UW-Oshkosh won't have to travel far for most of its women's outdoor track & field meets this spring as all but one of the Titans' scheduled competitions are in Wisconsin.

The Titans will be represented at 12 meets over an eight-week period, including the WIAC Championship on May 7-8 in River Falls and the NCAA Division III Championship on May 27-29 in Greensboro, N.C.

UW-Oshkosh's lone home meet will be an event for high jumpers and throwers on April 29 at the Oshkosh Sports Complex.

UW-Oshkosh makes the transition from its indoor season to its outdoor campaign with Saturday's (March 27) Carroll University Open in Waukesha. The 12-team meet, which marks UW-Oshkosh's first outdoor competition since May 25 of the 2019 Division III Championship, is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. from the Dennis Punches Track & Field Complex.

Following its season opener, UW-Oshkosh voyages to the UW-Whitewater Rex Foster Twilight Invitational on April 2, UW-Platteville Invitational on April 10, UW-La Crosse Multi-Event Invitational on April 16-17, and the St. Norbert College Invitational on April 24.

The Titans will then host numerous high jumpers and throwers for a competition on April 29 before traveling to the UW-Platteville Border Battle on April 30.

UW-Oshkosh goes after its 12th WIAC title when it competes at the league championship on May 7-8 in River Falls. The Titans, who won their last conference title in 2011, finished fifth at the last league championship held in 2019.

The Titans then take to the road for Last Chance meets at UW-La Crosse on May 14 and May 16 and UW-Whitewater on May 15.

UW-Oshkosh closes the 2021 season at the Division III Championship on May 27-29 in Greensboro, N.C. The Titans won Division III titles in 1990, 1991, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2011 while placing second on nine occasions since the championship debuted in 1982. UW-Oshkosh finished 23rd with 10 points at the last national championship held in 2019.

UW-Oshkosh brings back 13 previous letterwinners for fourth-year head coach Justin Kinseth, including junior Cara Volz, the 2018 WIAC triple jump champion.

The recently completed indoor season had seven Titans receive Division III All-Midwest Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association – sophomore Alexandria Demco (800-meter run, mile run, 3,000-meter run, 5,000-meter run & distance medley relay), freshman Libby Geisness (800-meter run & distance medley relay), freshman Vanessa Jenneman (distance medley relay), freshman Riley Kindt (high jump), sophomore Hannah Lohrenz (mile run & distance medley relay), junior Sydney Thompson (shot put & 20-pound weight throw) and freshman Emma Warr (pole vault).

In 2019, UW-La Crosse scored 225.5 points to win the WIAC title for the eighth straight year and 34th time overall. UW-Eau Claire finished second to the Eagles with 192 points while UW-Stevens Point placed third with 125, UW-Stout fourth with 83 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 69. UW-Platteville finished six among the eight competing teams with 64 points, UW-Whitewater seventh with 44.5 and UW-River Falls eighth with 12.

At the 2019 Division III Championship, Loras College (Iowa) scored 53 points to claim its first Division III outdoor title. The Duhawks were followed by second-place Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) with 49 points.

UW-Oshkosh's lone home meet will be conducted in accordance with NCAA Division III and WIAC regulations, as well as institutional, state, and local health and safety guidelines. Each student-athlete and coach from UW-Oshkosh and the visiting programs will be allowed two guests. Attendance at the meet is closed to the public.
