Titans Win Two Events During Final Indoor Meet Of Season

Alexandria Demco and Lauren Urban both won distance running events as the nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh women's track & field team concluded its indoor season at Saturday's (March 6) UW-Whitewater Last Chance Meet in Whitewater.

Team scores were not compiled for the meet, which featured representation from all eight WIAC schools.

Demco took first place in the mile run with her NCAA Division III-leading time of 4:57.84 while joining Libby Geisness, Kyra Huber and Vanessa Jenneman for a second-place performance of 4:02.52 in the 1,600-meter relay. Demco defeated eight other contestants in the mile run, including teammate Hannah Lohrenz who finished second with the nation's ninth-fastest time of 5:06.31.

Demco, who helped UW-Oshkosh's 1,600-meter relay earn the 12th-fastest time in the country on Saturday, also ranks third nationally in the 800-meter run (2:15.58), eighth in the 5,000-meter run (17:43.97), and 18th in both the 400- (59.72 seconds) and 3,000-meter (10:27.44) runs this indoor season.

Urban outran three other participants in the 5,000-meter run with her time of 19:50.00. UW-La Crosse's Jana Dawson finished second with a run of 20:07.59 while UW-Oshkosh's Sydney Fricke placed third and Tricia Cich fourth with times of 20:22.13 and 21:21.73, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh's Sydney Thompson recorded the nation's second-best measurement in the shot put with her second-place distance of 46-3 1/4. She also finished third in the 20-pound weight throw with a mark of 54-1. Thompson ranks sixth nationally in the 20-pound weight throw with a season-best toss of 55-5 1/2.

Freshman Riley Kindt placed in three events for the Titans, including the high jump where she finished second with the nation's fourth-best height of 5-5 3/4. Kindt also listed fourth with the nation's 11th-best time of 8.956 in the 60-meter hurdles and seventh with a skip of 36-4 in the triple jump. Kindt ranks 15th in the country with a season-best distance in the triple jump of 36-9.

The Titans also had Lohrenz finish third and Geisness fifth in the 800-meter run with times of 2:19.84 and 2:20.31, respectively, and Morgan Florek fourth in the 20-pound weight throw with a measurement of 52-8 and fifth in the shot put with a distance of 42-1 1/2. Geisness ranks 18th nationally with a season-best time of 2:18.69 in the 800-meter run while Florek lists ninth in the shot put and 12th in the 20-pound weight throw with season-best marks of 44-2 3/4 and 54-2 3/4, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh's Cara Volz recorded the nation's 20th-best distance in the triple jump with her sixth-place measurement of 36-6 1/4 and Mikayla Jackson the nation's 17th-fastest time in the 200-meter dash with her seventh-place sprint of 26.10 seconds.

Titans Emma Warr contributed a seventh-place height of 11-0 1/4 in the pole vault and Brenna Masloroff an eighth-place mark of 40-10 1/2 in the shot put. Warr leads the country with her height of 12-1 1/2 in the pole vault from a dual meet with UW-Eau Claire on Feb. 27.

UW-Oshkosh completed its 20 top-eight mentions with the sixth-place time of 13:12.82 in the distance medley relay from Meygan Benzing, Amelia Lehman, Alaina Wagner and Lauren Young.

The Titans entered Saturday's meet ranked fourth in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Rating Index compiled by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association while UW-La Crosse was first, UW-Eau Claire second and UW-Stevens Point ninth.

UW-Oshkosh is scheduled to open its outdoor season at the Carroll University Invitational on March 27.
