Titans Register Five More Top-10 National Performance Listings

Alexandria Demco recorded a nation-leading time in the 800-meter run as the UW-Oshkosh women's track & field team dominated UW-Whitewater in a non-scoring dual meet held Friday (Feb. 19) in Whitewater.

The Titans, ranked sixth nationally in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Rating Index compiled by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, won 10 of the 15 events and had the top-seven finishers in the shot put, top-five participants in the 200-meter dash and the top-four competitors in the 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles and 20-pound weight throw.  

Demco defeated seven other participants in the 800-meter run with her victorious and Division III-leading time of 2:15.58. UW-Oshkosh's Libby Geisness finished second and Hannah Lohrenz third to Demco with times of 2:20.75 and 2:23.72, respectively. Demco is currently ranked in this season's top-15 national performance list in three categories, with the others being fourth in the mile (5:05.95) and 13th in the 3,000-meter (10:27.44) runs.

The Titans achieved the top seven of 14 results in the shot put as Sydney Thompson finished first with a measurement of 44-7. Thompson, who ranks third nationally in the event at 45-5 1/4, was followed on Friday by UW-Oshkosh's Morgan Florek in second place at 41-10 1/2, Brenna Masloroff in third at 39-7 3/4, Kahley Logan in fourth at 39-3 3/4, Taya Fleischman in fifth at 38-6, Katie Fruth in sixth at 37-11 1/2 and Allie Marineau in seventh at 37-10.

Thompson additionally defeated 13 other contestants in the 20-pound weight throw with her cast of 55-5 1/2, the second-best distance in Division III this season. Finishing behind Thompson in the event were UW-Oshkosh's Florek in second place at 52-8 1/4, Marineau in third at 47-0 3/4 and Michaela Barrette in fourth at 46-1 1/4.

UW-Oshkosh freshman Riley Kindt finished first in three events on Friday, including two where she moved into this season's national top-10 performance list. Kindt won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.06 seconds, high jump with a height of 5-4 1/4 and triple jump with a measurement of 36-3. Kindt, who was previously ranked 10th nationally in the triple jump (36-9), now ranks sixth in the country in the high jump and seventh in the 60-meter hurdles as well.

Kindt defeated three other competitors in both the high and triple jumps. UW-Whitewater's Brooke Walling finished second in the high jump with a leap of 5-0 1/4 while Titans Cara Volz finished second and Karina Perez fourth in the triple jump with distances of 36-2 1/4 and 31-11 1/4, respectively.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Kindt ousted five other challengers, including Titans Katie Retzlaff who finished second with a time of 9.49 seconds, Drue Polka who placed third in 10.04 and Nakayla Morgan who listed fourth in 10.19.

UW-Oshkosh earned the nation's second-fastest time in the distance medley relay as Demco, Geisness, Lohrenz and Vanessa Jenneman combined for a winning performance of 12:38.41.

The 200-meter dash was all Titans as Alaina Wagner won the race of six sprinters with her time of 26.87 seconds. UW-Oshkosh's Jenneman placed second with a time of 27.67 seconds while Titans Rachel Castelli finished third in 27.77, Valerie Seeley fourth in 27.88 and Erika Mullen fifth in 28.20. Wagner also finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 16-8.

A total of 13 runners competed in the 60-meter dash and the top-four finishers were owned by UW-Oshkosh. Mikayla Jackson won the race with a time of 8.02 seconds while Kyra Huber followed in second at 8.03, Castelli in third at 8.16 and Elizabeth Hren in fourth at 8.17.

UW-Oshkosh had the top three finishers in the 5,000-meter run as Lauren Urban won the race with a time of 19:35.44 while Sydney Fricke placed second in 20:27.19 and Tricia Cich third in 20:49.21.

Other Titans finishing second were Jenneman in the long jump with a leap of 17-6 1/4 and Lauren Young in the mile run with a time of 5:28.73.

Remaining third-place results for UW-Oshkosh went to Reichardt in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:07.32, Taylor Christensen in the pole vault with a height of 9-10 and Amelia Lehman in the mile run with a time of 5:29.96.

The Titans also had three other top-four finishes in the 1,600-meter relay as the team of Huber, Jackson, Polka and Wagner placed second with a time of 4:11.10; the group of Castelli, Hren, Mullen and Seeley third in 4:33.50; and the quartet of Morgan, Retzlaff, Volz and Anna Bubolz fourth in 4:39.13.

UW-Oshkosh will compete Wednesday (Feb. 24) and Thursday (Feb. 25) at the UW-Stevens Point Multi-Event Invitational before hosting UW-Eau Claire in a dual meet on Saturday (Feb. 27) in Kolf Sports Center.
