Titans Host Defending Conference Champion In Women's Track & Field Opener

The UW-Oshkosh women's indoor track & field team hosts defending conference champion UW-La Crosse on Saturday (Feb. 6) to begin the 2021 campaign. The season opener commences at 1 p.m. in Kolf Sports Center.

This season WIAC teams will compete against league rivals exclusively.

UW-Oshkosh travels to UW-Whitewater on Feb. 13 and Feb. 19 before attending the UW-Stevens Point Multi-Event Invitational Feb. 24-25. The Titans return home to face UW-Eau Claire on Feb. 27 ahead of a meet at UW-Whitewater that concludes the season March 6.

The WIAC Championship, originally scheduled for Feb. 26-27 at UW-Platteville, and the NCAA Division III Championship, previously set for March 12-13 in Geneva, Ohio, have been canceled.

UW-Oshkosh, which placed third at the WIAC Championship last season, brings back 28 previous letterwinners, including four All-Americans, for fourth-year head coach Justin Kinseth.

Senior Morgan Florek (20-pound weight throw), junior Hannah Lohrenz (mile run), and sophomores Libby Geisness (800-meter run) and Emma Warr (pole vault) were all named Division III All-Americans after the qualifying for the 2020 national meet that was canceled due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Geisness is the reigning WIAC champion in the 800-meter run, while Warr placed second in the pole vault at last year's league meet.

Senior Cara Volz, the 2018 and 2020 WIAC champion in the triple jump, also returns for the Titans along with All-WIAC Second Team performers in junior Alexandria Demco and sophomore Lauren Rabe, who each ran a leg on UW-Oshkosh's distance medley relay team that finished second at the league championship last season.

UW-La Crosse, the 27-time WIAC champion, went into last year's national meet ranked first in the country by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Eagles secured the 2020 league title with 230 points.

UW-Eau Claire finished second at the 2020 WIAC Championship with 127.5 points followed by nine-time national champion UW-Oshkosh in third with 92 points, UW-Stevens Point in fourth with 64, UW-Whitewater in fifth with 49, UW-Stout in sixth with 48.5, UW-Platteville in seventh with 36 and UW-River Falls in eighth with 15.

UW-Oshkosh won its division-record nine national indoor championships in 1994, 1995, 1996, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2011, 2013 and 2014. The Titans are also a 13-time WIAC champion.

Spectators will not be allowed at WIAC events during the winter sports season. All contests will be conducted in accordance with NCAA Division III regulations, as well as institutional, state and local health and safety guidelines.

All UW-Oshkosh women's track & field home meets (selected events) will be streamed live online. The links will be posted on the UW-Oshkosh women's track & field schedule page when available.
