Titans Narrowly Defeated For Big Dawg Invitational Title

UW-Oshkosh owned the winner in four events as it placed second in the team competition at the UW-Stevens Point Women's Track & Field Big Dawg Invitational held Saturday (Feb. 8) in Stevens Point.

NCAA Division II Northern Michigan University won the eight-team meet by edging second-place UW-Oshkosh, 140-138.5, for the title. UW-Stevens Point finished third in the team standings with 95 points while UW-Stout placed fourth with 72 and UW-Eau Claire fifth with 70.

UW-Oshkosh accumulated 21 of its points in the mile run. Titan Hannah Lohrenz won the race of 29 contestants with her time of 5:06.42 while teammates Amanda Van Den Plas placed third in 5:16.26, Ashton Keene sixth in 5:19.26 and Alexandra Demco seventh in 5:22.46. The time by Lohrenz in the mile run ranks 22nd in the NCAA Division III this season.

The Titans also tallied 18 points in the 200-meter dash. UW-Oshkosh's Mikayla Jackson recorded a winning time of 26.39 seconds in the event to defeat 42 other competitors, including teammates Kyra Huber who finished fourth in 26.62 and Morgan Endries who placed sixth in 26.95.

UW-Oshkosh also had Sadie Huth win the 60-meter hurdles and Libby Geisness the 800-meter run with times of 9.26 seconds and 2:18.28, respectively. The time by Geisness in the 800-meter run ranks 22nd in Division III this season. The 60-meter hurdles featured 20 participants on Saturday and the 800-meter run 25. 

The Titans had three additional place-winning performances in four other events – the 60-meter dash, shot put, triple jump and 20-pound weight throw.

In the 60-meter dash, Jackson finished third with a time of 7.99 seconds, Huber sixth in 8.01 and Taylor Pralle seventh in 8.09 while Sydney Thompson placed third in the shot put with a distance of 41-10 3/4, Morgan Florek fifth at 41-5 1/4 and Kahley Logan eighth at 39-4.

The triple jump had Cara Volz finish second with a measurement of 36-10 1/2, Danae Prange fifth at 35-4 and Hanna Gray eighth at 32-11 1/4 while the 20-pound weight throw featured Florek listing second with a toss of 54-2 3/4, Allie Marineau fifth at 48-6 3/4 and Thompson eighth at 37-9 1/4. The skip by Volz in the triple jump ranks 33rd in Division III this season.

UW-Oshkosh's remaining second-place finish went to Demco, Geisness, Lohrenz and Melissa Srnka with their 1,600-meter relay time of 4:10.38.

The Titans also acquired a fourth-place height of 10-10 in the pole vault from Emma Warr and sixth-place times of 9.69 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles from Grace Tempesta and 2:25.21 in the 800-meter run from Srnka.

UW-Oshkosh's scoring performances concluded with Katie Retzlaff's seventh-place time of 9.84 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, Grace Baldwin's eighth-place height of 9-10 in the pole vault and Lauren Rabe's eighth-place time of 1:03.23 in the 400-meter run.

The Titans will compete next Saturday (Feb. 15) at the UW-Whitewater Midwest ELITE Invitational.
