Titans Place Second In Outdoor Debut
A pair of victories by Cara Volz and one by Megan Leahy helped UW-Oshkosh start its women's outdoor track & field season with a second-place finish at the Benedictine University Invitational held Saturday (April 7) in Lisle, Ill.
Competing in frigid temperatures, UW-Oshkosh scored 97 points to finish behind the winning 144 points tallied by NCAA Division I Loyola University (Ill.). NCAA Division I University of Illinois-Chicago placed third in the 17-team field with 74.5 points while Concordia University Chicago (Ill.) finished fourth with 60 and NCAA Division I Northwestern University (Ill.) fifth with 55.
UW-Oshkosh scored 25 of its team points in the 100-meter hurdles and 21 in the pole vault.
Volz won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.27 seconds while Sadie Huth finished third in 16.52, Erica Lorenz fourth in 17.96 and Katie Retzlaff fifth in 18.06. Volz also won the triple jump with a skip of 37-1 3/4.
Leahy took first place in the pole vault with a height of 12-4 3/4 while Sydney Rau ranked fourth at 10-2, Alicia Moon fifth at 9-2 1/4 and Theresa Richards seventh at 8-8 1/4.
UW-Oshkosh had a pair of second-place finishers in Taylor Pralle and Alexandria Steger. Pralle ran to a time of 25.98 seconds in the 200-meter dash while Steger marked a distance of 109-0 in the javelin. Pralle also added a fifth-place time of 13.02 seconds in the 100-meter dash.
The Titans remaining third-place listings belonged to Isabella Samuels in the shot put and Lauren Wrensch in the long jump. Samuels and Wrensch recorded distances of 42-11 and 17-3 1/2, respectively.
UW-Oshkosh also had Huth finish fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:16.06, Emily Reichenberger sixth in the 100-meter dash at 13.11 seconds and Lindsay Denu eighth in the 400-meter run at 1:01.58.
The Titans will compete at the UW-Platteville Invitational next Friday and Saturday (April 13-14).
