Titans Finish Third At WIAC Indoor Championship
Kristen Linzmeier and Emily Reichenberger both won an event and ranked second in another to lead UW-Oshkosh to a third-place finish at the WIAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship (presented by Culver's) held Friday and Saturday (Feb. 24-25) in Menomonie.
Linzmeier captured first place in the mile run with a time of 5:02.25 while finishing second in the 800-meter run at 2:14.37. Reichenberger sprinted to a winning time of 7.74 seconds in the 60-meter dash while securing the second-place performance in the 200-meter dash at 25.40.
Erica Munyan earned UW-Oshkosh's remaining victory with her time of 10:10.32 in the 3,000-meter run. She also placed fifth in the mile run with a time of 5:06.38.
UW-La Crosse scored 144.5 points to win its fifth straight WIAC indoor title and 25th overall. The Eagles were immediately followed in the eight-team meet by second-place UW-Stevens Point with 103.5 points and third-place UW-Oshkosh with 103.
UW-Whitewater finished fourth in the team standings with 84.5 points while UW-Stout placed fifth with 81.5, sixth-place UW-Eau Claire with 76.5, seventh-place UW-Platteville with 60.5 and eighth-place UW-River Falls with nine.
UW-Oshkosh, which has won the WIAC indoor title 13 times, also benefited from Alyssa Ryan's second-place height of 12-2 1/2 in the pole vault.
Cara Volz scored for the Titans in three events, including the triple jump with her third-place distance of 37-2 1/2 and the 60-meter hurdles with her fifth-place time of 9.22 seconds.
Volz also ran with Lindsey Denu, Morgan Endries and Rachel Powers to record a seventh-place time of 4:09.88 in the 1,600-meter relay.
Other third-place finishes belonged to UW-Oshkosh's Elizabeth Abhold in the 20-pound weight throw with a measurement of 55-11 3/4 and Cheyenne Moore in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:12.76. Moore also finished second in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 17:46.67.
UW-Oshkosh's remaining fifth-place finishes were owned by Ellie Infante in the 20-pound weight throw with a cast of 52-7 1/2 and Karina Marchan in the long jump with a flight of 17-3 1/4.
The Titans closed their individual scoring with the seventh-place time of 7.90 seconds in the 60-meter dash by Olivia Seeley and the eighth-place height of 11-2 1/2 in the pole vault by Sydney Rau.
UW-Oshkosh tallied its remaining points on the seventh-place time of 13:11.84 in the distance medley relay by Powers, Michelle Draxler, Hannah Thorn and Breanna Van Den Plas.
UW-Oshkosh athletes look to improve their national rankings when they compete at meets hosted by Carthage College on Friday (March 3) and UW-Stevens Point on Saturday (March 4).
The NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship is scheduled for March 10-11 in Naperville, Ill.
