Titans Place Second At Cardinal Opener

Taylor Sherry broke her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles during the UW-Oshkosh women's track & field team's performance at the North Central College Cardinal Opener on Friday (Jan. 22) in Naperville, Ill.

Defending NCAA Division III champion UW-La Crosse won the six-team meet with 183 points, while UW-Oshkosh finished second with 142 and UW-Whitewater third with 92. North Central College took fourth with 89.5 points, St. Norbert College fifth with 55 and Carthage College sixth with 34.5.

Sherry defeated 30 other participants in the 60-meter hurdles with her time of 8.88 seconds. The effort beat her previous record of 8.89 set last spring.

UW-Oshkosh dominated the 3,000-meter run by owning four of the event's top five finishers. Erica Munyan won the race with a time of 10:42.32, while Danica Harrison placed second in 10:45.03, Leah Rendflesh third in 10:46.58 and Isabella Tremonti fifth in 10:56.23.

The Titans won two other events on the track as Caitlyn McCormick took the 400-meter run in 1:0.57 and Kristen Linzmeier the mile run in 5:15.10.

UW-Oshkosh's Elizabeth Abhold was the first-place finisher in the 20-pound weight throw with a measurement of 58-10. She also ranked seventh in the shot put with a distance of 38-11.

Karina Marchan was a multiple second-place finisher for the Titans after running to a time of 8.01 seconds in the 60-meter dash and leaping to a mark of 17-4 1/4 in the long jump.

UW-Oshkosh's Olivia Seeley and Alison Williams contribute a pair of top-six finishes apiece.

Seeley ranked second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 60-meter dash with times of 26.63 seconds and 8.03 seconds, respectively. Williams finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.62 seconds and sixth in the high jump with a height of 5-0 1/2.

The Titans also received a second-place height of 5-0 1/2 in the high jump from Kasey Ederer, a third-place mark of 10-11 1/2 in the pole vault from Alyssa Ryan, a fourth-place time of 18:29.16 in the 5,000-meter run from Hannah Kuenzi and a seventh-place effort of 5:45.02 in the mile run from Cammy Garvelink.

Finishing eighth for the Titans were Lauren McMicking in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:04.52 and Melanie Wichman in the 20-pound weight throw with a distance of 47-9 1/4.

UW-Oshkosh's 1,600-meter relay team of McCormick, McMicking, Tremonti and Lindsay Denu finished second with a time of 4:14.39.

The Titans compete at the UW-Whitewater Warhawk Classic next Saturday (Jan. 30).
