Titans Honored At NCAA Basketball Tournament Game

Members of the UW-Oshkosh women's indoor track & field team were recognized for their 2013 national title at the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament on Saturday (March 22) in Milwaukee.

At halftime of Wisconsin's 85-77 win over Oregon, the Titans walked to center court and their accomplishments were announced to the sold-out Bradley Center crowd of 18,206.

UW-Oshkosh won the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship with 56 points. Illinois College placed second with 32, while UW-La Crosse listed third with 27.

The Titans won a record five events at the meet. Christy Cazzola counted victories in both the mile (4:48.11) and 5,000-meter (16:57.58) runs. She then teamed with Stephanie Jahn, McKenzie Kelly and Kylee Verhasselt to capture the distance medley relay with a national-record time of 11:32.24.

Samantha Loew and Breanna Strupp both won a field event. Loew earned the weight throw crown with her distance of 62-0.25, while Strupp took the shot put with a 51-6.25.

UW-Oshkosh successfully defended its title at the 2014 NCAA Division III Championship on March 15 in Lincoln, Neb.
