Throwers Lead Titans At Eagle Open

Heather Clankie, Samantha Loew and Abby Martin won throwing competitions at the Eagle Track & Field Open on Friday (May 10) in La Crosse. No team scores were kept.

Clankie prevailed in the discus, marking a 141-8. Loew then won the hammer throw at 175-1 and Martin took the shot put at 44-3.5.

Melanie Brickner placed second in the hammer throw with her 174-7. Loew and Brickner currently stand fourth and fifth, respectively, in the national rankings.

Tessa Thurs also counted a second-place performance with her 400-meter hurdles time of 1:04.12. In the 1,600-meter relay, UW-Oshkosh's quartet of Stephanie Knutson, Megan Geldernick, Becklyn Hunter and Stephanie Jahn listed second at 3:59.30.

Third-place showings came from Martin in the hammer throw at 166-8, Samantha Blue in the long jump at 17-7 and Kasey Ederer in the high jump at 5-2.25.

UW-Oshkosh will compete at the UW-La Crosse Final Qualifier on Thursday (May 16).
