Titans Complete Competition At Drake Relays

Seventh-place finishes by Nick Baatz (Sr. • Brownsville) in the discus and Pete Delzer (Sr. • Oconto Falls) in the shot put led UW-Oshkosh's track and field efforts at the prestigious Drake Relays held April 22-27 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Baatz marked a distance of 167-8 to earn his ranking in the discus competition. Jordan Williams of the University of Northern Iowa won the event with a measurement of 190-6.

In the shot put, Delzer finished seventh and Baatz 22nd with throws of 57-11 1/4 and 52-10 1/4, respectively. The University of Georgia's Nick Vena captured first place with a distance of 62-0 1/2.

The Titans also had Donald Klitz (Sr. • Markesan) finish 13th in the triple jump with a skip of 49-1 3/4, Delzer 16th in the hammer throw with a mark of 188-7 and Corey Wilch (Jr. • Waukesha) 19th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.81.

UW-Oshkosh had two groups of men competing in relay events. The Titans took ninth place at 1,600 meters as Wilch, Brian Beaudo (So. • Fort Atkinson), Mike Servais (Fr. • New Franken) and Reid Zanoya (So. • Monticello) posted a time of 3:14.52. In the 400-meter race, Naji Allan (Fr. • Sheboygan), Quentin Badger (Jr. • Madison), Kyle Schueller (Fr. • Edgar) and Ryan Sprenger (Jr. • Larsen) registered a 13th-place time of 41.94.

UW-Oshkosh had five women compete at the meet as well, including Samantha Loew (Sr. • Burnett) who finished 21st in the hammer throw with a distance of 166-7.

The Titans placed 16th in the 400-meter relay as Samantha Blue (So. • Kimberly), Cassandra Hemmen (So. • Appleton), Alesha Malueg (So. • Kimberly) and Amanda Shober (So. • Sussex) recorded a time of 49.05.

Gina Relays

A number of UW-Oshkosh athletes also participated at the Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Mich.

Jordan Carpenter (So. • Ashwaubenon) topped the men with a third-place finish (9:07.84) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. John Block (Jr. • Madison) ran a 3:58.17 in the 1,500-meter for sixth, while Derek Johnsrud (Jr. • Fall River) placed seventh in the 5,000-meter race at 14:58.58.

The women's results featured Kylee Verhasselt (So. • Freedom) listing fifth at 2:12.18 and McKenzie Kelly (Sr. • New Richmond) 10th at 2:15.00 in the 800-meter run. Kelly also came in 14th during the 1,500-meter with a 4:33.56.
