Child, Strupp Record Top Throws In NCAA Division III

Alexia Child (Sr. • Lake Geneva) and Breanna Strupp (Jr. • Slinger) launched the top throws in the nation as UW-Oshkosh competed in a pair of track & field meets on Friday (May 11). Titans took part in the Dr. Keeler Open (Naperville, Ill.) and the UW-La Crosse Open.

Child posted a 193-6 for the best hammer throw in the NCAA Division III this year. Marking the country's furthest shot put, Strupp booked a 46-11 3/4 for the victory. Strupp also won the La Crosse discus competition with her 160-2.

The final Titan to prevail in La Crosse was Danielle Carrigan (Sr. • Waukesha), who pole-vaulted 11-1 3/4.

Meanwhile at the Keeler Open, Lisha Hanson (Sr. • Clintonville) won the 400-meter dash in 56.62. Hanson also ran with Samantha Blue (Fr. • Kimberly), Cassandra Hemmen (Fr. • Appleton) and Brittni Wirtz (Fr. • Sobieski) to earn first place in the 400-meter relay at 48.01. Wirtz added a second-place result in the 100-meter dash with her 12.09.

UW-Oshkosh recorded other great performances in the La Crosse throwing events. Grabbing second place, Child hurled the shot put 45-6 1/2 and Samantha Loew (Jr. • Burnett) notched a hammer throw of 180-8. Strupp followed in third with her 164-10 hammer throw. Using the discus, Kayla Oberstadt (Sr. • New London) booked a 133-11 for third place.

Claire Pohlman (So. • Sun Prairie) achieved a strong field finish in La Crosse, taking third with her triple jump of 36-5 3/4.

UW-Oshkosh will host its final meet on Friday (May 18) as individuals try to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championship.
