Six Titans Chosen For USTFCCCA All-Academic Team
UW-Oshkosh had six members of its women's track and field team
receive All-Academic honors by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross
Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Named to the 2012 NCAA Division III squad were Heather Conroy (Fr.
• Wisconsin Dells), Cassandra Hemmen (Fr. • Appleton),
McKenzie Kelly (Jr. • New Richmond), Kayla Oberstadt (Sr.
• New London), Breanna Strupp (Jr. • Slinger) and Brittni
Wirtz (Fr. • Sobieski). The USTFCCCA recognized 340
individuals, including a league-best 48 from the WIAC.
Strupp gathered four All-America finishes at the NCAA Division III
championships, including an individual title in the outdoor shot
put. She owns a 3.62 cumulative grade point average as an education
major.
Wirtz also was an All-American at both the indoor and outdoor
national meets. She placed fourth in the outdoor 100-meter dash and
sixth in the indoor 60-meter dash. Wirtz holds a 3.69 grade point
average while majoring in nursing.
At the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship, Oberstadt placed
eighth in the hammer throw and Conroy 10th in the shot put.
Oberstadt is a human services major with a 3.61 grade point
average, while Conroy is a business major with a 3.40 grade point
average.
Majoring in education with a 3.61 grade point average, Kelly
qualified for the national outdoor meet in the 1,500-meter run.
Hemmen owns a 3.60 grade point average and ran with Wirtz on the
Titans' outdoor 400-meter relay team that finished 13th.
Laura Sigmund of Wartburg College (Iowa) was named the Indoor
Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Catherine Street of Linfield
College (Ore.) the Outdoor Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
In addition to the Scholar Teams of the Year, the USTFCCCA also
announced the All-Academic Teams. UW-Oshkosh compiled a cumulative
team grade point average of 3.16 to become one of 137 NCAA Division
III schools earning recognition. Ursinus College (Pa.) led all
programs with a 3.71 grade point average, while Bluffton College
(Ohio) ranked second at 3.64.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team,
the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point
average of 3.30 and have either competed in an NCAA Indoor or
Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the
national top 35 of an individual event or in the national top 25 of
a relay event on the official NCAA Proof of Performance list.
