Women’s Cross Country Team and Two Individuals Earn Academic All-America Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La.- The UW-Oshkosh women's cross country team was named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III Academic All-America list on Thursday, joined by junior Libby Geisness and sophomore Cyna Madigan on the individual student-athlete list. The team earned the honors for the eighth straight year.

Oshkosh complied a 3.44 cumulative GPA during the fall semester and was one of the 212 teams that earned at least a 3.10 cumulative GPA.

Eastern Mennonite University (Va.) led women's team with a 3.9 GPA, followed by Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.), Saint Mary's University of Minn., Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Calif.) and Saint Vincent College (Pa.) in the top five.

WIAC programs UW-La Crosse (3.6), UW-Platteville (3.504), UW-River Falls (3.675), UW-Stevens Point (3.38), UW-Stout (3.374) and UW-Whitewater (3.538) also earned honors.

Madigan, a mathematics major from Rosendale was named to the individual list for the second year in a row. She finished 14th in the Tori Neubauer Invitational and 21st in the WIAC Championship. Geisness, an elementary & middle school education major earned the honors for the first time. She recorded 25th (Blugold Invitational) and 18th (WIAC Championship) finishes this season.

383 student-athletes were named to the individual list, with seven runners from La Crosse, four from Stevens Point, three from Stout and two from Whitewater earning runners on the list.

Johns Hopkins University (Md.) was named the National Scholar Team of the Year and graduate student Kassie Parker was named the National Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Last Season

The team earned their seventh consecutive team honors last season, and Hannah Lorenz joined Madigan on the individual list.
