Women’s Cross Country Program Honored For Academic Success

The UW-Oshkosh women's cross country program continues to be praised for its academic performance.

Head coach Eamon McKenna's Titans compiled a 3.35 cumulative grade-point-average during the 2021 fall semester to earn recognition as an All-Academic Team from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the seventh straight year.

A total of 163 NCAA Division III women's cross country programs ended the recent fall session with a GPA of 3.10 or higher, including Nebraska Wesleyan University which owned the nation's top mark at 3.90.

King's College (Pa.) ranked second nationally with a 3.87 GPA while Pomona-Pitzer College's (Calif.) listed third at 3.869, Principia College (Ill.) fourth at 3.856 and Saint Vincent College (Pa.) fifth at 3.8441.

In addition to UW-Oshkosh, other Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference programs honored for their impressive GPA were UW-Eau Claire at 3.69, UW-La Crosse at 3.62, UW-River Falls at 3.582, UW-Stevens Point at 3.53, UW-Platteville at 3.453, UW-Stout at 3.421 and UW-Whitewater at 3.359.

Johns Hopkins University (Md.) was named the Division III Scholar Team of the Year. The Blue Jays recorded a 3.63 GPA and won the team title at the NCAA Championship held last November in Louisville, Ky.

Named All-Academic Athletes by the USTFCCCA were UW-Oshkosh's Hannah Lohrenz and Cyna Madigan.

Lohrenz, a senior, owns a 3.41 cumulative GPA as an interactive web management major. The Hortonville High School graduate captured the WIAC title last fall while earning All-America honors with her 31st-place finish at the Division III Championship. Lohrenz also finished third at last fall's Division III North Regional. The 2021 WIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year was also an USTFCCCA All-Academic selection in 2018.

Madigan, a sophomore, holds a 3.73 cumulative GPA as an accounting major. The Laconia High School graduate finished ninth at the WIAC Championship and 45th at the Division III North Regional last fall.

Lohrenz and Madigan helped UW-Oshkosh finish third at the WIAC Championship and fifth at the Division III North Regional last fall.

A total of 203 Division III student-athletes received All-Academic honors, including 22 from the WIAC.

Kassie Parker of Loras College (Iowa) was named the Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

To be eligible for All-Academic recognition, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 and finish in the top 25 percent at their respective regional meet.
