Titans Finish Fifth At Blugold Invitational
The UW-Oshkosh women's cross country team used a 26th-place run from Ashton Keene to finish fifth among 27 programs at the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational held Friday (Oct. 4) at the Whitetails Golf Course in Colfax.
UW-Oshkosh acquired its fifth-place team score by totaling 169 points and owning five of the meet's top 60 runners.
UW-Eau Claire captured the team title with 49 points while University of Minnesota and St. Olaf College (Minn.) followed with 61. The University of Minnesota earned the second-place award over St. Olaf College on a scoring tiebreaker.
Rounding out the top five teams were fourth-place UW-Stevens Point with 152 points and UW-Oshkosh.
Other programs in the top 10 listings were sixth-place UW-La Crosse with 177 points, eighth-place College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) with 236, ninth-place UW-Whitewater with 310 and 10th-place Michigan Tech with 332.
Keene traveled the 6,000-meter trail in a time of 23:08. She also was UW-Oshkosh's top runner at the UW-Parkside Vic Godfrey Open held Sept. 6.
Joining Keene in helping create UW-Oshkosh's team score were Alexandria Demco, Amanda Van Den Plas, Elizabeth Reddeman and Meygan Benzing. Demco finished 29th with a time of 23:21 while Van Den Plas placed 35th in 23:25, Reddeman 55th in 23:53 and Benzing 60th in 23:56.
St. Olaf College's Bryony Hawgood won the race of 346 runners with her time of 21:54 while UW-Eau Claire's Lexie Trimble finished second in 22:10 and Lakehead University's (Ontario, Canada) Rebekkah Pyle third in 22:13.
Unattached runner Morgan Marek finished fourth with a time of 22:16 and University of Minnesota's Elena Hayday fifth in 22:24.
UW-Oshkosh also had Libby Geisness place 91st in 24:24, Tayah Cunningham 92nd in 24:25, Breanna Van Den Plas 136th in 25:15, Melissa Srnka 144th in 25:21, Lauren Urban 156th in 25:31, Tricia Cich 165th in 25:46 and Megan Berg 171st in 25:54.
UW-Oshkosh competes at Lawrence University's Gene Davis Invitational next Saturday (Oct. 12) in Appleton.
