Moore Chosen As WIAC Cross Country Athlete Of The Year

UW-Oshkosh senior Cheyenne Moore has been named the 2017 WIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year. The award was voted on by the league's eight head cross country coaches.

Moore's remarkable season included winning four consecutive meets, beginning with the University of Minnesota's Roy Griak Invitational (Maroon Division) on Sept. 23. She then won the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational on Sept. 29, UW-Oshkosh Kollege Town Sports Invitational on Oct. 14 and the WIAC Championship on Oct. 28.

Moore outran 87 other competitors to repeat as the individual winner at the WIAC Championship. Moore, who became the seventh Titan to win more than one WIAC title, completed this year's 6,000-meter course with a time of 22:07. She won last year's conference race after finishing 15th at the league championship in 2014 and 45th in 2015.

Moore qualified for this year's NCAA Division III Championship by placing fourth among 263 runners at the Midwest Regional held Nov. 11 in Rock Island, Ill. Moore crossed the finish line in a time of 20:53 to punch her ticket to nationals. She previously finished fourth at the Midwest Regional in 2016 and 73rd in 2014.

At the NCAA Division III Championship held Nov. 18 in Elsah, Ill., Moore finished eighth among the meet's 279 participants with her time of 21:01. Moore became UW-Oshkosh's first All-American and top-10 finisher since Christy Cazzola won the national title in 2012. Moore placed 45th at the 2016 Division III Championship in Louisville, Ky. 

Moore is the third Titan to receive the WIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year award. Previous UW-Oshkosh award winners were Ayla Mitchell in 2009 and Cazzola in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
