Moore Finishes Eighth At NCAA Championship

UW-Oshkosh's Cheyenne Moore earned All-America honors with her eighth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championship held Saturday (Nov. 18) in Elsah, Ill.

Moore, who was the Titans' lone representative at the national meet, completed the 6,000-meter race at Principia College's North Farm Cross Country Course in a time of 21:01. She is UW-Oshkosh's first All-American and top-10 finisher since Christy Cazzola won the title in 2012.

Moore received one of 56 at-large berths into this year's championship after placing fourth at the Division III Midwest Regional held Nov. 11 in Rock Island, Ill. Moore finished 45th at last year's Division III Championship in Louisville, Ky., with a time of 21:28.

Khia Kurtenbach from the University of Chicago (Ill.) won Saturday's race with a time of 20:40 while Bryn McKillop of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (Calif.) placed second in 20:46 and Kaitlyn Mooney of U.S. Coast Guard Academy (Conn.) third in 20:37. Kurtenbach was a 10th-place finisher at last year's championship.

Nicky Roberts of Amherst College (Mass.) ranked fifth among the meet's 279 runners with a time of 20:50, Meg Mathison of Carleton College (Minn.) sixth in 21:01, Abigail Nadler of Middlebury College (Vt.) seventh in 21:01, Emily Richards of Ohio Northern University ninth in 21:02 and Gabrielle Stravach of Emory University (Ga.) 10th in 21:03.

Defending champion Johns Hopkins University (Md.) scored 96 points to easily win its fifth NCAA team title, all in the last six years. The 191 points from second-place UW-Eau Claire and the 202 from third-place Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) followed the Blue Jays.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology finished fourth in the 32-team meet with 210 points while Carleton College place fifth with 258.

Completing the top 10 teams were sixth-place State University of New York-Geneseo with 274 points, seventh-place Tufts University (Mass.) with 294, eighth-place Williams College (Mass.) with 310, ninth-place Ithaca College (N.Y.) with 350 and 10th-place Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (N.Y.) with 397.

UW-Oshkosh will host the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's & Women's Cross Country Championships on Nov. 17 at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.
