Titans Finish Fourth At NCAA Regional

UW-Oshkosh strengthened its candidacy for a 27th appearance at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championship with a fourth-place finish at the organization's Midwest Regional held Saturday (Nov. 12) at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.

UW-Oshkosh, which finished second at last year's regional, scored 125 points to rank fourth among this year's field of 38 teams. The Titans have won the Midwest Regional a record 14 times.

Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) tallied 66 points to capture its third straight Midwest Regional title and eighth overall during Saturday's competition. The Bears owned two of the meet's top three individual performers.

UW-La Crosse finished second in the team standings with 81 points while University of Chicago (Ill.) placed third with 124 and UW-Eau Claire fifth with 189.

Completing the regional's list of top 10 teams were sixth-place St. Norbert College with 215 points, seventh-place UW-Stout with 248, eighth-place Aurora University (Ill.) with 268, ninth-place North Central College (Ill.) with 306 and 10th-place Edgewood College with 311.

UW-Oshkosh calculated its team score with the help of three individuals who placed among the regional's top 15 runners.

Cheyenne Moore led the Titans by completing the 6,000-meter course with a fourth-place time of 21:56 while Kristen Linzmeier finished 13th in 22:16 and Erica Munyan 15th in 22:20.

UW-Oshkosh also had Leah Rendflesh place 45th with a time of 23:01, Ashton Keene 48th in 23:03, Michelle Draxler 58th in 23:14 and Jessica Stamn 104th in 24:02.

A new individual Midwest Regional champion was crowned as Khia Kurtenbach of the University of Chicago defeated 264 other runners with her winning time of 21:42. Kurtenbach was a third-place finisher in last year's race.

Aly Wayne and Alison Lindsay of Washington University in St. Louis finished second and third with times of 21:44 and 21:51, respectively. Erin Artz of St. Norbert College finished fifth in 21:58 while Elizabeth Frick of UW-La Crosse placed sixth in 21:59 and Morgan Marek of UW-Eau Claire seventh in 22:05. 

Washington University in St. Louis and UW-La Crosse both earned automatic berths into the NCAA Division III Championship that will be held Nov. 19 at the E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. Sixteen other at-large bids will be awarded from the nation's eight total regions on Sunday (Nov. 13). The top seven individual finishers from each region not on one of the team qualifiers will also earn an invitation to the national championships.
