Cazzola Selected WIAC Athlete Of The Year

For the third straight season, Christy Cazzola (Sr. • Kaukauna) received the WIAC Athlete of the Year award.

Cazzola ended her outstanding cross country career by winning the NCAA Division III Championship on Nov. 17 in Terre Haute, Ind. She posted a 6,000-meter time of 20:53 to defeat Alison Steinbrunner (Ohio Northern) by 15 seconds. Cazzola finished second at the national meet last season and fourth during 2010.

In her six races this year, Cazzola won four times. She captured the Midwest Regional with a career-best time of 20:51 and her third straight WIAC Championship with a mark of 21:16. Cazzola finished second to NCAA Division I runner Agnes Kemboi (TCU) at the Notre Dame Invitational.

Cazzola carries a 3.29 grade-point average as a special education major. The four-time NCAA Division III track & field champion was a member of last year's College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America team.

The league voted UW-Eau Claire's Dan Schwamberger as its Women's Coach of the Year. UW-Stout's Tim Nelson was the top male athlete, while his coach Matt Schauf earned Men's Coach of the Year.

The Titans' Ayla Mitchell was the 2009 WIAC Female Athlete of the Year.
