Cazzola Claims Crown, Titans Fourth At Midwest Regional

Christy Cazzola (Sr. • Kaukauna) repeated as individual champion as UW-Oshkosh placed fourth at the NCAA Division III Midwest Cross Country Regional on Saturday (Nov. 10) in Winneconne.

Finishing the 6,000-meter race in 20:51, Cazzola improved her winning time from last year by 40 seconds. Washington University's (Mo.) Lucy Cheadle came in second place at 21:01, while UW-Eau Claire's Ashlyn Mauer listed third at 21:14.

Madison Sawyer (21:38) and Steph Sjostrom (21:42), both of UW-Eau Claire, occupied the fourth and fifth positions.

UW-Eau Claire took the team title with a score of 67 points. The University of Chicago (Ill.) tallied 99 for second, as Illinois Wesleyan University marked 142 for third, UW-Oshkosh 153 for fourth and UW-La Crosse 162 for fifth. UW-Eau Claire, Chicago and Cazzola automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship next Saturday (Nov. 17) in Terre Haute, Ind.

McKenzie Kelly (Sr. • New Richmond) posted a 10th-place time of 22:15 for the Titans. Taylor Bauer (Fr. • Fort Atkinson) captured 44th with a 23:03, while Danica Harrison (Fr. • Arpin) was close behind (23:05) in 48th and Allie DeBaker (Jr. • Green Bay) took 50th in 23:06.

UW-Oshkosh also had Sonny Jenkins (So. • Manton, Mich.) place 116th in 24:14 and Rhea Fiorita (Fr. • Burlington) list 149th in 24:50.

A total of 276 women completed the race.
