Titans Finish Second In UW-Oshkosh Open

UW-Oshkosh owned five of the top 20 runners as it finished second in a seven-team women's cross country meet it hosted Friday (Oct. 20) at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.

NCAA Division I University of Wisconsin won the team title with a perfect score of 15 points. The Badgers were followed by UW-Oshkosh with 57 points, third-place UW-Stevens Point with 101, fourth-place Moody Bible Institute (Ill.) with 114 and fifth-place UW-Platteville with 130.

UW-Oshkosh, which rested several of its top runners in preparation for next Saturday's (Oct. 27) WIAC Championship in Cuba City, was led by the consecutive finishes of Kendal Wormuth (Fr. • Wittenberg), Alexandria Mahoney (So. • Spring Green) and Michelle Murray (Jr. • Waunakee). Wormuth traveled the 6,000-meter course in a 14th-place time of 24:37, while Mahoney finished 15th in 24:39 and Murray 16th in 24:41.

Ariel Michalek, running unattached, won the race of 59 participants with a time of 22:21. The University of Wisconsin swept the next six places as Kristen Yarows finished second in 22:31, Dana Steffens third in 22:36, Jessie Sykes fourth in 22:39, Rebecca Stoebe fifth in 22:48, Maddie Timm sixth in 22:56 and Erica Speigelberg seventh in 23:02.

UW-Oshkosh also received team scoring from Gabrhael Walman (Jr. • Franklin) and Mariah McMullen (Jr. • Byron, Ill.). Walman finished 19th with a time of 25:24 and McMullen 20th in 25:29.

The Titans also had Macy Egan (Fr. • New London) finish 22nd in 25:33, Kate Brooks (So. • Winneconne) 24th in 25:46 and Alexa Nutter (Jr. • Fennimore) 26th in 25:52.
