Cazzola Takes Second, Titans Seventh At Brooks Invitational

UW-Oshkosh placed seventh among 37 teams at the Brooks Cross Country Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 13) at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.

The meet featured 1,000 total runners, and due to inclement weather, the men and women ran the course at the same time. Calvin College (Mich.) topped the women's standings with 91 points. The University of Chicago (Ill.) followed in second with 114, while UW-Eau Claire took third with 115.

UW-Oshkosh's team score of 277 featured a second-place result from Christy Cazzola (Sr. • Kaukauna). Cazzola posted a 6,000-meter time of 21:32 in the 500-woman field.

Four other Titans listed in the top 87. McKenzie Kelly (Sr. • New Richmond) came in the 31st position at 22:57. Taylor Bauer (Fr. • Fort Atkinson) then clocked a 23:37 for 79th place, Allie DeBaker (Jr. • Green Bay) a 23:44 for 84th and Sonny Jenkins (So. • Manton, Mich.) a 23:46 for 87th.

Danica Harrison (Fr. • Arpin) and Morgan Engelhart (Jr. • Oregon) were next in line for the host team. Harrison crossed the line 129th in 24:09, while Engelhardt used 24:24 to take 161st.

Ohio Northern's Alison Steinbrunner won the race with her 21:24, eight seconds ahead of Cazzola. Lucy Cheadle (Washington University, Mo.) claimed third place at 21:35, along with Ashlyn Mauer (UW-Eau Claire) in fourth at 21:44 and Chelsea Johnson (St. Scholastica, Minn.) in fifth at 21:47.

UW-Oshkosh returns to Lake Breeze for its own open meet on Friday (Oct. 19).
